It's been a long time since I've bought a computer and a friend of mine has been consulting me on their new laptop purchase when they came across something that seems to me to be the ultimate in nickle and diming.
Sony offers something called "Fresh Start".
It is an "add on" to a computer purchase where they do not install all the extra garbage (free trials, freeware, demos, etc.) that bogs down your PC.
This sounds great, right? Nope, they charge $50 for this service.
I know the $50 is to cover lost comissions on sales from all the pre-installed crapware but I'm wondering - are their comissions that high on these or are they just charging that much (far more than what they get in comission sales) just to make more money?
IMO this is along the same lines as airlines charging extra for a first checked bag.
Well, maybe it is a good opprotunity for me, charge $25 or $30 to remove all the crap for people (the same people who usually comes to me for data transfers, peripheral installs, etc.).
