.eu is a different baby, IMO.
There are a number of free trade agreements between Asian countries but nothing of the magnitude found in the EU. The EU is a political Union and actually exists in many forums as a political entity. The Commission takes on greater responsibility with every passing year. As for the constitution it appears to be a matter of when, not if.
For all these reasons and more, I can see the .eu extension really taking off in the next few years. It's the eighth most popular extension available with over 2.8 million registrations. Germany has taken to the .eu like a duck to water, accounting for some 31% of all .eu registrations. This in itself is vital considering Germany's notoriety as a domainer's market (.de being the second most popular domain extension in the world). The Dutch, despite accounting for only 3.4% of the European population, account for almost 14% of all registrations.
In sum, Europeans ARE using it, just not quite all of them. Don't let British scepticism distract you from the potential of this extension.
Am I missing something here?

I am definitely seeing a clear future with IDN's. Getting steady traffic, and a few offers here and there.

co.za 421 284 South Africa (after yesterdays drop of about 2000)
co.za July 2007 328 264
It has really picked up in the last year
To be honest I think that the rush will be as follows: (and is already on)
DoubleKeyword.com's
Major DoubleKeyword.net's and .org's (mainly fuelled by GoDaddy's net/org price hike + the fact a good name, is a good name)
Foreign Keyword IDN .com's
The last of the generic keyword .tv's and .us's
the last of the .de/.ru/.pl/.eu/.co.uk/.it domains
then primary and double keyword ccTlds
what else is worth buying? this current trend of domainers domains like quad premium 4L's has to stop soon; they just get passed from domainer to domainer and really have no use.. your a big astronomy society, would you rather have tasl.com or AstronomySociety.com
I fear I'm ranting and going ot
note: tried googling site:.tld/ recentely to get domain index stats? [eg: site:.com/] ?![]()
Based on those figures of CCTLDs I'd suggest LLL.ch. I think ABJ.ch is available (or was a few months ago when I last checked).

The next big investment in domains is...Premium Generics .com and LLL.com like always![]()
