    Adverts :(

Every day I login I find an extra advert has been added to the right side of the index page

I don't mind ads being there but I am not impressed how it is pushing the supposed "quick" links further and further down, and more importantly for me the "view new posts"

As a suggestion, please can you put the "quick" links section at the top and then stick as many adverts as you can below it.

Ok, its only a bit to scroll down, but its currently the most annoying part of visiting dnforums and not exactly what i though the "paying" members should be expecting

Encore, encore, encore or as they say in the more sedate areas of the UK "here here".
Quick Links is no longer quick when you have to scroll half way down the page.
Stick them across the top to get rid of the weed-smoker, or better still across the bottom!

I agree. The thing is those banners cost $999 so I am sure the buyer of them wont pay for bottom advertising.

LOL. Perhaps some dope pipe or paraphernalia shop would now like to place an ad HERE, they'd get some great publicity with that dude (still) in the top left!!

I think the idea is to get you to scroll down past the banners to get to the "quick links" in hopes that you will visit a sponsor along the way.

I'm sure this obvious to everyone, and I think plague's all website owners. What to do with the dreaded banner ads so that people will actually click on them.

izopodian suggestion: Put the banner ads at the top of each thread (rotating). It kills two birds with one stone. Those who primarily visit DNF by going to the "view new posts" link (I'm in this crowd) can get to that link quicker, and the owners get eyeballs as soon as anyone clicks on any thread.

I can't decide if DNF looks more like the Vegas Strip or a Whore House.

It seems to me that the new owners and the new advertisers are one in the same. At least in a few cases.

I do think though that I have paid enough money to this forum to not have to have a whole load of "sleazy" looking ads... this place looks like i have clicked on "casino on the net" by accident

Perhaps 2 forum skins would be better. one for platinum/gold members and one for the none payers

Agree, it's getting too commercialized and the quick links are not quick anymore since you need to scroll down to access them!

All most of us seem to use is View New Posts and that should be at the page top.

My take is that we are here to make money and have fun, right?
Profoundly influenced by #Bauhaus, @Nameslave unrepentantly embraces #Minimalism in his #multimedia portfolio. His early works include an experimental adaptation of Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard inspired at least partly by Robert Fripp. His totally irrelevant M.Ed. dissertation examines Organizational Culture and Change Management.

Sorry to say this but since the issues have been raised, unless things have changed a lot (which is possible) the banners likely do NOT work anyway, regadless of their location top or bottom. This is so at other sites, not just DNF. Banner advertising simply does NOT work anymore for most advertisers.

When the 16-yr old forum owner at the time (Dan) was at the helm (approx' 1-yr ago), I had a real good looking paid banner here right at the top and centered and my click-thru rate was an amazingly low 0.10%, that's right, this is not a misprint - not 1% but 1/10th of 1%. Never made a dime off of it. With that low a click-thru rate, making any money on the banner was/is hopeless.

As a side note, I paid up front for 3-mos and Dan took it upon himself to arbitrarily cancel it without asking me and any explanation, after it ran for approx' 1-1/2 mos., without giving any pro-rata refund. Instead he soon put up ads from others. He kept on promising to reinstate my banner but never did.

Finally I told him to keep the money as it was not worth the trouble anyway, and he was complaining about having no money to buy a car, and his server was shutting dnf down for days at a time for non-pmt of his Hosting bills.

Exactly,,, but the adverts detract from the fun

I am not saying they should go,,, but perhaps some thought should be made into making the forum easy to use and therefore "fun" instead of just trying to make some quick buck and annoy the "paid" members

Signature Marketing is the BEST form of advertising.

    I've Got Good News!
    And I've Got Bad News!

    The Good News:
It looks as though there is room for 2 more banners.
If you scroll to the bottom of the main table you'll see that the link column doesn't match the main table.
Looks to me like The Owner can squeeze a few more banners in at present without the link table exceeding the main table.

In theory this would work. But if The Owner keeps adding large headers and nonsense teeny-bopper threads on the main page there will always be room for more banners.

    The Bad News:
It really doesn't matter that you already have to scroll to get to the quick links. As is, we're all a bunch of idiots that paid $49 to join a forum anyway.

Demanding removal of the ads, lame threads, unbanning trash, expecting what we paid for?
Just who the hell do we think we are?

    JMFO
    Good Luck!

Has anyone else noticed that there is only one advertiser that isn't owned by Adam and High Impact Sites, and that's an affiliate link for domain sponsor.

I too believe that the adverts are taking away from the fundamentals of the website; to have fun and make money.

Hi Izopod, Thanks for also putting up my sig. I apologize for being unable to give you stats on how it worked at the time for lack of a good but low priced stats program (still don't have one - any suggestions from anyone?)

Could you please again explain the concept (as I did not fully understand it when it was running ) and how I may participate again please. Thanks.

Yup. And, apparently, get really B.A.K.E.D. in the process (please see home page; the angry, unprofessional guy in the top left!!).

Two forum skins is an EXCELLENT idea. One could be ad-free for Gold/Platinum members, and the other is as the site is now.

It would provide another incentive for people wavering about whether to upgrade their memberships or not...
