I paid for a membership here for the purpose of appraisals and I thought there was something that would be worth paying the membership for.

The forum for appraisals is simply inadequate. Any appraisal will come in for the same domain at reg fee all the way to xx,xxx,xxx. For the same domain... lol. Besides, that forum is inactive and the moderator isn't helping.

Since there are alot of people spening money to be a member here, you'd think that there would be benefits to being a member. Since I've paid my fees, I have yet to see the benefits. To me it looks like this site is simply riding on the coat-tails of it's members... relying on the members to admin the board.

This is the place for comments and suggestions... Actually, I find this forum inadequate and unmanaged. The auction thing doesn't work unless you pay even more money and it's simply uncalled for. I would much rather get a refund on my membership and get educated about domain names in a forum that has that focus, not the focus on charging the most money and giving nothing in return... and the rewards store... what a joke.

Seriously there is a wealth of experience amongst the domainers who visit this forum, and most are very serious about their domain activity - you can learn a great deal from them.
As for the Appraisals Forum - what did you expect? Some guru answering your questions with a diploma for each name you enter and a lottery figure estimate to get you excited?
This is a normal vBulletin forum which is visited by many people in the industry, the appraisals forum is there for anyone to submit their names for appraisal and for anyone who wishes to to give a personal view as to its worth.
You could probably employ someone to do nothing but enter figures in response to everyone who wants an idea of what their name is worth and in so many cases when they do get an appraisal they don't like what they hear - like you. Not surprising that so many here are simply not interested in getting into conversations with people who demand appraisals and then moan when they get them (or if they don't).
If you stay here and listen and watch you will learn a lot even without asking for appraisals, but if you prefer talking about which is best Coke or Pepsi, go elsewhere - freedom of choice is what its called.

I understand what you are saying about the appraisals and the members here. I'm just trying to figure out what advantage membership gives me. Most appraisals are hardly even looked at. I also understand the some of you probably get sick of appraisals from newbies and I understand that also.

As far as the moaning... I've never moaned about an appraisal. As far as not liking what I hear.... who are you to tell me what I like and don't like and when did you become a judge. I'm simply saying that I've been a member for a while. Asked for some appraisals. Tried to learn more about buying domain names. Looked the site over and over and sometimes I just see newbies getting ignored. Like we aren't even here.

Anway, now I finally get some action... it's funny, when something legit is posted not much comment. When controversy is posted, everyone wants a piece of the action.... I was worried noone was in here... and the forum had died. I guess I wasn't posting enough interesting things!

I agree Mr. Webname. Even though I have been involved with domains since the nineties, I have found that I learn something new nearly every time I visit this forum. It is a place for ideas both old and new; some people are more experienced than others in the business, and have a variety of opinions on appraisals. We can all be happy with the large domain sales, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

I don't recall making such a personal comment about you, why should I - I don't know you?
Some of us have been here for a relatively long time and have benefited from the experience of others over many months - there is no instant fix to get to know everything. As for getting action on posts - if you post on things that interest others you will get a response, but if no one else is interested in what you are saying you probably won't.
You've been here what, 3 months? Anyone with any domains worthwhile should be able to recoup their membership fee in that time and add to that the experience gained certainly makes the fee worthwhile.
My experience is that if a newbie posts a "help" item he always gets a response but he won't get a response just because he's a newbie - stick around and see how things work - don't expect to know everything all at once.

Just for the record, your response to the Admin here as quoted in this thread (later edited by you) will not endear you to anyone - repeat that and you won't need to worry about your membership, you won't have one!

IMHO, you have learnt at least one valuable lesson already from the DNF
The lesson is that appraisals are not worth a pinch of salt. Just think, some people actually pay for appraisals and others actually believe them!!
You can easily prove for yourself that appraisals are worthless by offering for sale a name at the price it has been appraised at.
Odds are that it will not sell.
Yes, even if the appraisal was reg fee.
You still won't find a buyer
Please keep starting threads and posting, as this forum wants and needs people like you who are prepared to give their honest opinion.
Don't worry about the mods posts...They are just exhausted from overwork and underpay.
My suggestion to enhance yor experience here is to use the "Todays Post" links at the top and note who is obviously a lunatic and who seems sensible.
Then start ignoring the posts by the deranged.
Suggest you also ignore people who own DNs with fake whois
After a while you will get really good at only reading worthwhile posts and you will get some real gems of information from some very clever and experienced people.
Sometimes the gem is hidden amongst other posts in a thread.
If it is a real gem of information, it will usually not get commented on at all
People just act on the information and don't want to spread the good news too far by drawing attention to the post.

Before paying for membership schnitzeldorf you had a much time to learn for what you're paying , in my opinion if anybody willing to pay just for appraisals he'll choose professional app. from sedo , Afternic and ect . What about that you're getting no response , just try to post threads which will attract others (Like this one) nobody will help you here just because you've " paid " .

I think a poll system in addition to remarks would get a lot more feedback some like myself dont comment because we don like to offend other people.

As far as moderators I think they do a pretty good job, I only have one exception a post in Gold Cafe about Bin laden, moderator simply deleted my post and said "stick to the subject at hand" political discussions not allowed. The rule is quite clear so the Moderator took correct action - this is after all a domain forum and there is much to discuss without subjects that can cause confrontation.

My original post was about a osam bin laden news release where he said blue states would be safe and red states in danger after election, the rules of the forum state here you can discuss anything you like

but I would agree moderators run the show, its there forum not mine, I just didnt no politics was off limits,(gold cafe) i do now and dont post them anymore, a side note this post is Ok though right, it has a link in it for dont be fooled by bush a website who nocks the president of the USA people get offended by differing views sometimes dialogue helps sometimes it hinders, personal attacks dont help much

I was a little harder on the forum then I should have been. Sometimes we run our mouths bit much before we comletely think about what we're saying and what effect it could have. ... .. For that, my apologies to anyone I may have offended.

Next, I haven't been here very long as a member. I know there is a ton of information for the guy who wants research and has time to research... Me, I'm a member of a lot of forums and just swing in to answer questions when I can and also ask them. I honest don't have time to go back and research everything.

While I was on the curb last night, I did finally sell my first domain name. It I sold it on ebay for $50.00. Yeh! technologynation.com $50.00... I know, I know, but I sold it and it's moved inventory..right?

Ok, as far as domain names and what they are worth, I think after seeing what I've seen and what posts I have read and the knowledge I have in the selling end of things, Domain names are like anyting else. Appraisals mean absolutely nothing. Nothing at all. A domain name or any other product for that matter, is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. It can appraise for a million dollars but who still has the name? Just like all things, bottom line is it and appraisals mean absolutely nothing.

To answer another question, NO, I have not done any appraisals... I think it would be obsurd.. like the blind leading the blind.

FYI, I don't make appraisals because I frequently buy and sell here. No matter what I put as an appraisal there would be a conflict of interest, so I just don't do it.

well, who's qualified to give an accurate appraisal? What are those qualifications? How can anyone legitimately be qualified. Guesstimates, but there's just too much that can make a name good or bad.

I love it regardless. I am an addict.. I just keep buying names. Sold only one but have many. Now if I can just get them covering themselves for renewal, I'll be doing ok.

Appraisals are sometimes helpful, when you have no idea of a domains worth. In whole, appraisal might even be the wrong word for the way we value domain names, perhaps hypothesis makes more sense (an educated guess).
