If you are new to domains and looking to buy, sell and learn about domains then you have come to the right place. DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 105,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains. Take a minute and Register.
Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!Today I posted a 1 day contest to get people to guess a sedo auction's end price, offering $1000DNF. Obviously I'm copying this idea from the others I have seen doing it lately. However all those threads have been closed.
Obviously DNForum has decided that contests shouldn't be used in this manner...
However, it seems that these weren't hurting anybody. At least $DNF are being healthily spent? What does it matter?
I get the feeling that because contest posts come up in iSpy, this is a leading factor in defining whether or not these threads are annoying to the community?
What if DNForum launched 2 iSpy versions, one purely for the sales forum categories, and one for everything else?

Actually, it looks like only recent ones are open.

Look at the left column, see how many are locked now?

oh wow...i just noticed.
I totally agree with closing it, based on how it can be annoying to see in iSpy. I obviously started a contest due to observed success by whoever came up with the idea. I'm guessing the iSpy flooding was a big motivating factor. A lot of people have iSpy open nearly 24/7, i keep mine on my second monitor a lot of the time which is mounted on the wall. It's like a stock ticker to me lately.

might have something to do with this http://www.dnforum.com/f98/announcements.html

Glad to hear you guys enjoy the iSpy feature.
The reason the threads were closed had nothing to do with iSpy though.
Michael was right in suggesting it's because there's no advertising allowed in the Contests forums and those types of threads are promoting sales and are clearly advertisement-type threads in breach of the rule.
If you guys spot any others spring up before the moderators do, please send in a report by clicking the report post icon in the thread. Kind regards.
Oh well, I tried.. it was a good idea whoever was the first to do this!
Thanks for the info Jarred.

Agree, it was cool and members were interested. I was going to post one with 3,000 DNF$ prize BTW...
