Re: dnforum posts archived on search engines.

I would much prefer zero access to the forum by search engines.

There is a conflict of interest in that admin of dnforum want more members because that increases profits, but that is not in the interests of domain name owners.

When the number of people in a market increase, competition increases and profits fall - this is basic economics. It is not in the financial interests of domain name traders for this forum to increase membership.

Also, given the very nature of our industry which Giant Domains previously commented on, it is even more in the interests of domain name traders to keep end-users out of our discussions.

I know NP lets search engines in, but they are playing in a less sophisticated niche of the market and are the underdog in the industry - but I still disagree with their policy. DS of course does not do this and this is because there is no conflict of interest - they do not make money if more people join them.

If a business is to succeed it should be looking after its customers. My conclusion is that dnforum should not let spiders in at all and contact Google to remove any caches they have.

Re: dnforum posts archived on search engines.

i think the problem that we find is that others can see how much *we* bought the domains for, and this can be used againgst us whilst trying to sell for profit.

although this sounds drastic, maybe tags, similar to the [ QUOTE ] and [ / QUOTE ] tags can be created that censor domains within the search engine friendly templates.

this discussions has been brought up before.

That would be a perfect competition market, that's not the only case
here. You have a large portfolio of premium .biz names so no matter how
many people join you won't have much competition. You would benefit
from more buyers in the forums. DNForum must have a significant page rank
and impact on the SE results, if more people keep signing up then maybe
Platinum memberships should go up to $250 (lifetime!). People with good names
to bring to the forum could afford it, other people would mostly get gold
membership and would only make sales in Names Wanted, and purchases
in the sales forums. The SEs will bring money into the forum, otherwise
where is the money coming from? We can't just close the doors and swap names
with each other! Everyone is shocked the 1st time they realise everything
they've posted is recorded, but that's the way it works everywhere. If we're
smart and pay attention to when the thread is spidered theres no real problem.

Although spidering Gold Cafe and not this forum would be neat!!
CamGirls.com MANY camgirl sites making up to $1,000,000 per day ~ Appraisal = $x,xxx
    Social.com Comparison Only - Not brandable - Not generic - No revenue model ~ Appraisal = $10Million+++

Just to let you know, I checked one of my domains I had in the appraisal forum, and it no longer appears in google.

This is actually a very easy thing to do. The IP ranges for GoogleBot and other big SE spiders are known. Blocking IP numbers or ranges is no problem, just a decision that needs to be made...

Re: dnforum posts archived on search engines.

So what's being blocked now? I thought we would get an update "after a few days"...

A search on google for: +site:dnforum.com
Turns up 8,560 results. Many with pricing information cached there.

Can I safely start a sales thread yet and trust that it won't be indexed?

We will now look at the situation and come to a decision that is best for the forum as a whole.
