While one may argue that the status quo will remain, its easy to see that this is just another case of separation. The richer keep making their own little elite circles .....
    Hey AhmedF, well said!

But if you didn't know... the BIG FISH in the domain industry (including DotComGod) ALREADY have an elite little circle!!

And now YOU CAN HAVE ACCESS TO IT, just for the price of admission!

And the most AMAZING thing of all.......?

You get it FREE for 30 days! (did I mention that your first 30 days of access to the "elite little circle" was free?)

If I was you, I would be dancing, not crying!

PS- I DARE you to ask DCG how many years HE'S worked to earn HIS admission! You can have yours in 5 minutes!

    Yes you're right

Perhaps in what is available to us, but how many platinum members actually visit the gold section? Some of the big dealers might just move to exclusive.

Well the good thing is you get to try it free for a month and see if it's worth it. Surely if you don't think it's worth it, the "big dealers" may not either.

The entire 'prestige' of platinum is lost, which I believe is the main issue.

Interesting take. I guess I never really looked at it as a position of "prestige". To me it was a section on a forum that had the most value, so I paid for it. Now there is a new level of value that I will have to decided if I will pay for. Prestige has nothing to do with it for me.

And the name does not help either ... 'exclusive'. I am sorry, but that was an asinine choice ... its the cliche classes again.

    Valid opinion.

Ahh .. high school all over again. I just do not have the 'dough' to hang with the rich jocks and hot chicks.

    Rather a high-schoolish comment.

If moderators are nto getting paid,
then whats left to pay for running the site,
Hosting and license, if this is the case why did a moderator harp on how expensive it is to run.

come on who you trying to kid!

BTW Calling me a kid is the most immature thing a moderator can do, and is a clear indication of how users of this forum are regarded, you will hear no more input from me as obviously you guys arent interested in anything apart from justifying your price hike.

It costs a lot more then just a server and a license. Why don't you ask Adam yourself how much it costs to run this place? Maybe he will answer you. Ask him how much it cost for the chat license. Ask him how much it cost for the custom live auction script. Ask him how much it cost for the live support. Ask him how much it costs him to have website designed for measly DNF bucks. Come on man, look past the pretty colors and you will see there is a lot more then just Hosting and a license.

    > I will Pay ? for this domain

I think this should be locked off to all but Exclusive and perhaps Platinum members. The original announcement said Gold members would be able to read the forum.

I can just see the scenario:-

"I'll pay $8,000 for Yacht.com" says hopeful cheapskate Exclusive Member A.

At that point, the owner of Yacht.com gets hit with 250 emails within 30 minutes, all of differing degrees of coherence, all offering to buy the domain at prices between $0-7,999

Net result: owner either thinks "Hmmm, this is a VERY hot domain - I shouldn't sell it for less than 6 figures" or gets soured on the idea of selling the name full stop.

If on the other hand only a handful of "experts" can see the names in this forum, there should be somewhat less of an issue. Still seems like a pretty stupid idea to me, since I'd presume by the time one's in a position to pay out $400 a year on a membership one should be pretty good at the old "approach a buyer" email, but maybe somebody will find a use for it.

All valid points as usual Edwin. However I think exclusive can only see exclusive. Maybe any posts to this forum should be limited to "Pending Delete" status names.

    Hmmmm! Good point Edwin!

Perhaps the thread should be limited to Expired or even Pending Delete domains ONLY!

And having access to that forum from Platinum is actually quite a perk for all Platinum members! Access to big dollar, pre-sold domains!

By the way, how much will you pay ME, if I can get you Yacht.com?

    Read the earlier comments

Why don't you ask Adam yourself how much it costs to run this place? Maybe he will answer you.

    >>> How much it cost to buy the forum is probably a more pertinent question.

Ask him how much it cost for the chat license.

    >>> Probably not that much, if it was I have been party to a multinational licensing an internal chat system supporting 10k potential users and that was suprisingly little for a feature laden system.

Ask him how much it cost for the custom live auction script.

    >>> PHP programming is not expensive now days, however I did include this earlier sorry for the omition in the repeat.

Ask him how much it cost for the live support.

    >>> Thats what you moderators should be doing instead of convincing everyone that the features released inm the Exclusive section should not have been part of the existing 'blue ribbon' membership.
Ask him how much it costs him to have website designed for measly DNF bucks.

    >>> Those bucks do convert into paid usage of the site and inreturn I would expect something. But then again you can get websites desingned for next to nothing nowdays.

Come on man, look past the pretty colors and you will see there is a lot more then just Hosting and a license.

    >>> hmmm, so many seem to now be switching to forums that offer more without charging, so I think we will have to disagree on that one.

That is the last word from me, again.

Apart from I had a shot at Yacht.net and $8000 is generous in my opinion.

I'm not trying to convice you of anything. I'm simply giving you my opinions. That they, for the most part so far, have differed from yours, is no reason for you to stop giving feedback.

Just one example, I tried to sell the same list of domains a couple days ago. I sold about $400 worth there and about $3000 worth here. This is just 1 issue I have with it but it's pretty big to me.

Domainstate started after DNF, and membership there picked up around the time Greg introduced memberships here.

The sole reason Domainstate is probably free (for now) is because of the number of people it has taken from DNF, as many did not want to pay any membership fees.

The fees bring some benefits, such as a smaller group of people getting better information, such as domain lists (you could argue you can find these for free) the DNF auctions were also a great introduction but they seemed to have fizzled out. Also the domains available have passed hands for less then wholesale fees. (again many can argue they can list + sell for free on domainstate)

For me the Exclusive memberships should be 2 fold:
    - 1 a trusted seller with maybe a rating system such as that of ebay/paypal?
    - the ability to use a domain escrow site (i'm sure Adam owns it - netlox.com is it?) for FREE for both buyer + seller.

Also those members that wish to BUY only should be an exclusive member - they only have the ability to purchase domains so in fairness it is what DNF is trying to improve - to bring retail buyers to the site, with these points above you have a great scheme.

I for one would love to see most of the features for free, as an existing upgrade to the membership plans but as we all know, a business model that gives away many things for free, and does not get any return, will not prosper in the future.
