Get Rid of Domain Auctions

As I predicted, the domain auctions at the top of the page are filled with horrible domain names with asking prices at least 10 times what they should be.

It was a good idea, but it just doesn't work in practice in this community. Now its just an annoying afterthought in the forum.

I certainly like the direction the forum is now going with the new (old) mods and admins, but this silly auction set-up just isn't working.

One way to control it, is to require appraisals to justify the asking prices, otherwise were going to have another TDNAM on our hands....that would scary

Re: Get Rid of Domain Auctions

Free enterprise says that a person may ask what they like for a name and I hope we are still that.
Name value is decided on many levels and is extremely arbitrary. Traffic is not the only determining factor nor is brandability etc.

I agree and feel many might be overpriced as well, but this is an members forum and members pay to be here.

That said I wouldn't be opposed to having pay per use functions as well.
Premium Auction?
Use DNF$....can replenish as you need them. Would also make th F$ more usable.

Just a suggestion....

Re: Get Rid of Domain Auctions

I highly doubt anyone will pay for such a function when we could simply use a forum to auction, that was part of the reason we paid to start with isnt it ?

Re: Get Rid of Domain Auctions

You are probably right JP....
I actually never use the auction forum myself but I definitely don't agree with any appraisal system.

I always let the market decide with their wallet what a value is. They like your price - they buy.....they don't - they don't buy.

Re: Get Rid of Domain Auctions

I just click the minimize button on the auctions tab and haven't really noticed it since then.

ah, thanks for pointing that out.

I still dont think they add anything at all to the forum - more trouble than they are worth.

Re: Get Rid of Domain Auctions

I think we should go to a live auction in the chat room that is set in stone.

AND the live system should be made such that people take the bidding seriously. for example, like a system that people cannot just suddenly back out by logging out or something like that.

That could work if everything was more stable at all points (electricity, PC, OS, Internet browser, connection, chat server)
