Ridiculous password renewal policy

Why are passwords set to expire so often? It's not like DNForum stores credit cards or social security numbers. It's the only forum I know that is so strict about this issue.

Its good to renew any password, being your paypal password, or your even something as simple as your forum password. You would be surprised at what ONE person can do with ONE account. I think its also a way to weed out inactive members... Your made to change your password once every 180 days here... twice a year... Its not really asking much. It not only insures your personal security, but others as well.

goldkey used to make you change it regularly. They finally stopped. Makes no sense to me. My banks don't make me do it, paypal doesn't make me do it, yahoo/hotmail/gmail don't make me do it, but the DNF system does? I'm with others, it doesn't make sense.
