Suggestion for DNforum.com: add a Leasing section

Just a suggestion: please consider adding a "Leasing" section... this would be for people who own domain(s) that don't want to sell yet, but would be happy to lease the domain to a qualified web business/entreprenuer for a monthly or yearly fee, or for a percentage of generated revenue.

Is there a market for leasing really ?
IMO if there is one I guess it is with end users, not domainers.

Worth a try, but should have a leasing agreement signed by both parties.

I think leasing can work for a domainer if he/she owns a really high quality domain.

How do you know if you have a high quality domain someone would lease?: IMO, one indicator would be if people have already contacted you (unsolicited) to sell the domain.

For example... the same guy calls me about once a year and asks me to sell one of my domains... next time he calls, I might suggest he lease it.

Here's an interview with the owner of LeaseThis.com, click the audio player... http://www.marketingmartini.com/2007...i-032-tra.html

dnjournal.com domain leasing article...

http://dnjournal.com/articles/compan...anuary2007.htm

IMO, domain name leasing could be alot like the commerical real estate business...

IE: a major investor owns a shopping mall... small business lease space inside the mall to get the foot traffic they need to make his/her business successful... as with commercial real estate, the better the location, and the better the foot/traffic count, the higher the lease.

In approx. 99% of cases with commercial real estate leasing, the small business owner doesn't have enough money to buy the real estate... thus leasing allows the small buisness owner to obtain a million dollar (in many cases multi-million) location for a fraction of the price.

wonder how much would it cost to lease a million dollar domain..? could be a good advantage for a startup company, but

the only reason i can see this to get stuck is the lease agreement between the parties which would prevent the sale of a name for a term of the lease therefor owner should accept possibility of potential loss if the right buyer comes along

Brainstorming... hypothetical case for leasing:

Lets say Corporation A has a budget of $10,000 per month for Adwords... and at a cost of .25 cents per click, is bringing in 40,000 customers per month from the Adwords budget.

Lets say Corporation A leases a domain in the same market-niche for $500 per month that has 5,000 visitors per month (which is then re-directed to Corporation A's web site)... the cost to Corporation A for the traffic from the leased domain would be 60% less than their Adwords PCP cost.

Food for thought.

People lease cars, houses, advertising space, etc.. It allows you to "try" the domain without any major commitment, maybe a one year lease and that's it.
