Thumbs up Thanks to Acro and Chuck (login problems solved)

There was a problem with one of the DNForum addons that was locking a small number of folks out. Thanks to Acro (Theo) and Chuck, and anyone else who might have given the mods a heads-up.

One thing I did notice was that several issues arise when one is locked out:

    a) The Help Desk link requires one to be logged in. Obviously if one is locked out of the system, one can't even file a help request, but needs to find another member as a go-between. Thus, I'd suggest having a different method of contacting the mods for people who are locked out. As a test, try to logout of the system and find a way to contact the mods to get help ---- it's pretty hard (a phone number for access during working hours might also be help).

    b) In the username changes page:

    http://www.dnforum.com/username-changes.php

the link to "let us know" at the very bottom goes to a parked page, i.e. http://www.oursupportsite.com/ . That should go to whatever page is developed for (a). This parked domain is also mentioned at http://www.dnforum.com/f79/ where it says "You may also use our Support Ticket System" under "Send Suggestion directly to DNForum Administration.

    c) given one of the very big Hosting message boards running vBulletin was hacked recently (and a lot of backups were destroyed), it might be wise to test the backups, make sure they actually work, etc.

    Thanks Acro.

Also the email address from which all PMs are sent on DNForum is full (sales [at] ....). It might be wise to check that email periodically, move it to Google Apps for Domains (where one has a lot of space), or something like that, to be able to detect bounced messages, etc.

If there's a way for members to backup all their public messages, that would be a nice add-on, in case the board ever gets hacked, etc. There's already a way to backup private messages, but backing up our own public messages would be a great additions.

Similar problem a few days ago. Thread is gone now.

But that sales @ really should be taken care of. A simple link to a form with a capcha would be a easy enough to implement for the time being.

Maybe they have something new coming with the new skin/upgrade?
