    Angry What a joke.

The auction tonight was BRUTAL!!! The live auction needs to be revamped or eliminated.

    Problems that I see:

The domain names are of low quality with too high of an asking price, or the real players just do not particpate here anymore.

I believe it is a combination of the two above.

In my opinion the live auction can be used as a tool for growth and continued marketability. In an effort to accomadate growth outside the resellers only market, it is my belief that the minimum for the live auction should be $15. We are all here to make money. It does not do any one of us good to sell a name for $1. The upside is that it forces resellers to do their homework and not register garbage. Leaders direct and implement change, it is time for this forum to drive the value of a domain up before enormous traffice comes to this site.

Higher minimum price - $15 sounds ok - and fewer names per seller per auction (e.g. 3 or 5) should combine to drive up the average quality since it would force sellers to be much more selective.

If that didn't work, you could imagine even more draconian measures. For instance (if it could be programmed) you could block sellers from re-listing the same name on auction within 90 days (i.e. if both the seller AND name match a list of recently auctioned names, the name would be rejected - this would not block a sale of the same name by a new owner)

Posted this in a thread in the Misc. Forum. Might be more appropriate here:

A quick view of the Live auction stats tonight (May 4) definitely paints an ugly picture. 48 of 242 domains listed were sold (19.84%). Even worse, 41 of the 48 domains that did sell, sold for UNDER $10! And still worse than that, 19 of the 41 that sold, sold for $1 (just under 50% of all sales were $1!) Is that worth anyone's time?

I didn't even bother listing any names this week, in all honesty I do better on eBay.

I have to say that I'm not happy with this turnout .... I will never post names in the auction again or at least til something is changed....there were 4 people for the majority of the auction. What a wate of time money and domains....

I agree with Tippy...Ebay would have been a better place to sell the names.....or for that matter I could have just given them away/

    This auction should be voided...

    Now that's something I can't agree with.

If people post names at $1 and they sell for $1, that's "Seller beware!" Don't blame the buyers for paying the price on the ticket and no more.

In recent weeks, I've had to give away names for a few $ because I overestimated the potential bidding. I've learned my lesson and I'm never going to start as low as $1 again.

Yes, very negative to say the least. Quite alarming stats.

Things that ruin the auction on this site.

    1) Memberships In Order To Participate. Ruins your user base just like on Afternic.
    2) Crappy names.
    3) Cheap Skates (no not all of them are at domainstate). People can pay for a membership to list their crappy domains but can't afford to buy any. There are plenty of good ones that get no bids at all.
    4) Proxy bids. Means no one will attend the auction at all and see other names while waiting for the ones they are interested in to come up. Before when we had to wait on a name I would often bid on a name that I had not noticed before. The level of interest was much higher!
    5) People can't attend it. Proxy bid was supposed to help this out and the only names that are bidded on are 3 letter names which I don't give a crap about anyways.
    6) People bidding and not paying.
    7) Other reasons.

That's worrying indeed, sadly though, once again we cannot see the results list - can this be published somewhere please?

I think the membership plans are driving this site to the ground.

Only a few true domainers are willing to pay.
99.9999% of all the forums are free. Why would someone want to pay, when there are a few other places.

And the traffic stats are pretty misleading since the admin just gets random traffic here from other sites he owns. There are like 300 guests and 30 members online somtimes.

One would think that he would care more about his investment.
