It wasn't Liverpool who first made it known they were after those players, the club selling the players make it known to try and start a bidding war.
Man Utd just go in with a fee nobody wants to match and the club accept because its well over the odds, as a Newcastle fan I know it works because we got Shearer and Owen by pricing other clubs out the market.
