what is this thing used in boxing matches?

    hi,
i am a great fan of boxing.
i have a doubt.when during break in each round i can see players are treated by their trainers
one thing i really want to know is the trainer some time use a metal like object about one or two inch
he presses that object to the players face where they got hit
what is that thing?what is its use?
if any one knew plz reply,
    bye,
    jaik

Cold is a natural vasoconstrictor; that is, it will make blood vessels constrict or narrow.

This process will decrease the amount of blood going into the field of the cut.

The ENSWELL is nothing more than a flat or molded piece of metal that can be kept in ice and used to apply firm direct cold pressure to a laceration.

It is to stop the bruising, vaseline was used to stop the bleeding and protect the cuts but now they use a chalk like stick which looks like its metal.

And vaseline will act as a lubricant for blows which makes them less effective as abrasions. What you see is a styptic/vaseline combination.
