Question about having a unique IP for a site, re: SEO

I read that if you have your developed site on its own unique IP, that it will get you higher PR. That would seem reasonable even if the effect was not huge.

Can you have more than one site sharing that IP? Surely most big companies like CNN Or Yahoo dont have a unqiue IP for each and every site. So how many sites can share an IP, assuming they are each unique and well developed? All running on the same virtual server.
