Are our militaries really where our governments say they are?

I think this would be an interesting topic.

Do you really think a portion of our military are where our governments claim they are? No, I don't mean some special ops team that the US government claims is on a base in Germany is actually conducting recon deep within Iran, I mean something bigger.

Fact: One side of the moon faces the Earth, 100% of the time. Who knows that is on the other side?

Think about it - the serface area of the moon is roughly 37,930,000 square miles. Half of that is 16,965,000 square miles.

Even if we take out roughly 1% that still leaves one HUGE area for most governments who could reach the moon (the US, Russia, China, Japan, etc.) to set up a very large base.

I think it is very plausible that our governments could have set up bases on the moon - who knows what really happens when we send up rockets into space and if the military launches their own in an isolated area (uncharted island in the Pacific, Area 51 etc..). Do you really think we would have gone to the moon 40 years ago just to ignore it for almost half a century?

I think further out might be a stretch - a base on Mars etc.. is a little beyond us now. Mercury - while we could survive on there (stay in the twilight regions - it can get pretty cold, even by our standard, on those 83+ day nights) is also out of the question at this time.

A second space station (while we're all staring at the ISS) could also be a possibility.

Also - what about under the ocean? No, I don't mean submarines, I mean things like Sealab, large facilities on the ocean floor (heh, The Abyss anyone?).

Anyone else have thoughts on this?
