seo wise can be done in
a lot of different ways. Whenever I develop a domain it helps a lot knowing people, that can link you up because they know you're good for it.
But for someone starting out fresh, a good idea (and an easy way to gain a few relevant backlinks) is submitting your domain to a few free directories in appropriate categories. I guess that could be step 1
