I don't buy it that competition knocked my site COMPLETELY out of Google rankings for that keyword.

I've been steady in top 3 results for this keyword for over 2 years. You are telling me that competition made it go from the top 3 results to...nowhere to be found?

I would understand if, lets say, I slowly dropped down a position or two, but not completely being removed from Google.
