Many thanks for your interest and questions.
Expenses: I run all sites on my own servers, co-located, it's pocket money really (like 20 bucks a month). Another 50 bucks for the e-mail service and newsletter service.
Income: well, two answers here:
1) It depends on what you want to do with the sites. Due to a lack of capacity as a one-man-show I just stuffed in Adsense code and some affiliate links. No professional promotion or cross-selling really. Therefore I believe the sites have huge potential. Stickiness is there, users like them (as judged by the messages received).
In 2004 I made $15,408 with all sites at Adsense (pdf report from AS screenshot available). Another $700 via cj.com and some $300 with other networks. The wholesale affiliation earned $700. All Amazon’s (got accounts for all countries) made $4,000. Incorporation affiliation produced $3000 in commissions. Green Card affiliation made $520. Plus a little pocket money with some additional partnerships here and there. Can all be made available as screen shots from original reports.
So in total the sites in question made close to $25,000 income via affiliations and ad selling. But again: that was just quick sell money, done seriously there would have been a LOT more potential. Christmas contributed neatly via the stores both in Amazon and Adsense income.
2) The sad part of the answer: During the past couple of weeks (actually after December 18th with a major Google update) traffic tanked because of lack of updating, maintaining during fall 2004 and the mentioned update in December. Haven’t done anything to fix ever since because I needed to get into the new job (stunning opportunity) and decided now to kiss the online dream good bye (except of two fun sites maybe that I am going to keep).
So, right now traffic is at some 20% of what came in last year. The above numbers reflect the lower traffic as of now.
I am entirely convinced that someone with drive and knowledge could drive it back up within two, three months max!!!
This whole thing took a couple of thousand hours of sleep out of my life, almost damaged my marriage and earned me a major promotion (due to increased knowledge and professionalism I gained with it). So, it is intensely valuable to me, the potential should be extremely valuable to a pro as well.
I am not asking an arm and a leg. Judged by the past income (that needs to be revitalized) and the potential of both the sites and the domain package (great resale value as well) it should be 6 digits. Since the sites need updating and revitalization I would ask major 5 digits only.
