You conveniently forget the Carter years and the Iran Hostage Crisis, it may not of been on US soil, but it
clearly showed the end result of a weak President taking the diplomatic approach.... The seizure of our Embassy was only to last a few days, but thanks to Jimmy Carter (your hero I'm sure), he turned it into a diplomatic crisis that lasted 444 days.
And let us not forget 1961, The Vienna summit when JFK met with Nikita Khrushchev, It was Kennedy's ego and inexperienced handling of this meeting that led to the Cuban Missile Crisis, which nearly caused a nuclear war between the U.S. and USSR.
