It's not the mistakes you make, it's whether or not you learn from them. When I first started I bought named that I thought were good. I parked them and tried to sell them and had no bites.

I'd say close to 95% of the domains that I hand registered the first 9 months of domaining for me I let drop (the other 5% were planned and developed). Well, I tried to drop them but that is a different story.

What I should have done is bought 2-3 revenue domains as opposed to 100+ hand registrations for the same amount of money. But now with hand registering, I am extremely selective (unless it is a new technology or I am going to develop it, most likely I won't register it).

My largest mistake was not finding this forum earlier.
