[QUOTE=DNWizardX9;1287085]Protect idn.com how? Not allowing owners of dogs.com to go after the owner of dogs.com in japanese? [QUOTE]

There was a transcript out that stated that ICANN would not permit any new extensions that are "strikingly or confusingly similar" to any existing tlds. Perhaps to be interpreted...that Verisign would have the rights to the transliteral or equivalent of .com (commercial/commerce) and .net (network) terms for idn.idn. Nothing definate, just reading between the lines.

On a side note, Verisign had put forth the proposal for DNAME aliasing which (might) have been the best all around solution for idn.com. So far other options seem to be more in favor so we will have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime IDN.com etc. are live and traffic is definately on the upswing. IDN holders anxiously await IE7 Asia auto update now pushed back to 2008.

And the stats for months before October have been similar - traffic gradually increasing over time.
Today I just switched 乱交.com over to an adult site to see what it does there.
Bottom line is some IDNs definitely have solid traffic and real value - 乱交.com, my top performer, made me a believer

Thanks for posting that. Traffic overall is still at a trickle, but some names (particularly adult) do get a lot of hits. Porn.com in Thai gets over 5k hits per month. Many are reporting a good upbeat in traffic since ICANN started their idn root tests and there was a lot of publicity. The news really sparked the curious to try them out.

Still gotta have IE7 at critical mass for idn to really fly. Thats coming, was scheduled for 2007 but due to some conflicts with various software in Korea, Japan now pushed back to 2008.
