security tip for people running Windows or Linux - you can download the VMware player here ->
http://vmware.com/download/player/
and then install VMware's "Secure Browser Appliance" ->
http://www.vmware.com/appliances/dir...rowserapp.html
any browser exploit you might still run into will then be compartmentalized in your "virtual machine" environment
it's not foolproof, but a good first step to raise your operating environment above the "low hanging fruit" level.
Speaking of low-hanging fruit .... having spent some time wading through the gutter of 9mm's alter-egos' posting history on DP - one of the threads that came up involved a really charming blackmail shakedown attempt ->

just a little window into how our little friend is inclined to operate behind the scenes. At this point it should be obvious that he fits the profile of a classic grifter - ie, a sociopathic con artist skilled at manipulating victims, with natural talent for making "friends" quickly - and then burning them. So keep this in mind if you might tend to be sympathetic to "the poor kid who didn't know what he was doing and got mixed up with a bad crowd" - your sympathy is part of the game.
while most the visible focus in this thread is on "the Sudbury connection" - sucking up hundreds of hours of time from all of us following the details - anyone paying attention should realize that 9mm is probably just the tiny tip of the iceberg relative to the other players involved in this current debacle. And likely the weakest link for getting leads on the rest of the ring - would be best if a push can be made for law enforcement to get him into ("protective") custody ASAP.
IMO, quite likely will be counterproductive for people to reveal too much more info or suggestions for the public record beyond that in this thread - maybe best to PM TheLegendaryJP if you've got something useful to add, and let him decide what will or won't be helpful to make public.
Lotta popcorn for the peanut gallery here (and that's where I'm sitting) - but obviously serious money problems on the line for the victims - and corresponding jail time for the scammers - so should try to keep in mind that this online drama can easily translate into a real-world "life and death" scenario ....
