1) too slow - too many images and too heavy images
2) too patchy - the image bar , keep a white background, not blue.
3) too complicated - reading and browsing.. nah!

1) Please keep your homepage small size and fast load.
2) By looking @ Theme , this layout is OK if kept till the image bar and the rest can be done in a new page as a link or category or if you realy require, can be trimmed down !!
