CIRA has now modified the lifecycle of a domain affecting the transfer of a domain between registrars while the domain is in auto-renew grace.
As you know there was some issues where CIRA was not offering the losing registrar a refund and thus registrars were required to lock/delete/etc during that period.
As of this morning the losing registrar will now get a refund of the registration fee (and the domain will only ultimately be extended by one year as opposed to two years before).
Here at EGATE we are now removing the policies and systems that prevented domain(s) being transferred if in that stage. I suspect other registrars will either have done or be doing the same shortly.
Hopefully this makes things much smoother for registrants.
