Hi folks! I'm looking for some kind of advice from domain area.

I found a domain listed for sale on Afternic and GoDaddy Auctions. The buy now price was $XXXX (hidden).

Registrar: GoDaddy.com, LLC
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com
Updated Date: 2017-XX-...
Registry Expiry Date: 202X-XX...

I placed an order on Afternic, got bank transfer details and sent a wire transfer.

Next day, I was notified from Afternic that they couldn't verify domain ownership of the seller, my purchase is cancelled and refund is to be issued to the bank details which I have to send.

As far as I understand, Afternic business is to verify domain ownership, receive funds and release funds to domain sellers once transfer is complete.

It is very strange to me that the terms of sale have been cancelled.

I'm interested in this domain, so I went at Godaddy Auctions on the same day. The domain was listed there till October, 2018 (I've a screenshot). I asked an assistance in purchase though the live chat.

In result of discussion, the domain was removed from GoDaddy Auction. I was informed that the domain owner added the listing and removed it recently. How recently the agent couldn't tell.

The agent asked me to make an offer to buy the domain, so I made the offer with the same figure. I don't know if the seller agrees with my price.

BUT, I suspect that I'm being taken out of the deal:
  1. Domain owner has not been changed since 2017.
  2. Domain registrar is GoDaddy.
  3. Different statements: Afternic couldn't verify domain ownership of the seller (domain not owned by the seller), GoDaddy didn't update auction listing made by the owner.
What do you think guys? Did I loose my sale agreement or not?

The seller has more than 1,000 domains listed on Afternic since 2015.

Now, I think this domain is worth $XXX,XXX and after the payment (1) the seller changed his mind (2) or Afternic stopped this sale.

Also, I relized that the domain name must have been known for anyone in domain market.

if ownership is in question, then an agreement or sale, can't be made

Godaddy auction and their policy is worst in this case, did you contacted icann ?

Godaddy charges 18% plus tax in India, better to avoid them.
