We're discussing www.joseffritzl.org :

Well, we launched a portal / news site for Josef Fritzl a few days ago.

For those of you who aren’t aware, Josef Fritzl was arrested and accused of sequestering his daughter Elisabeth Fritzl for 24 years and raping her many times – resulting in 6 “grandchildren”. The story has caught fire in the last week worldwide.

We did some quick tactical SEO work for JosefFritzl.org and launced it as a news aggregation with some social networking features. It seems to have worked ; top 5-10 SERP positioning on Google and we’re looking at 2500 visitors and 5000 page views per day (average over last 3 days) and growing.

Any thoughts on value? Thinking high XXXX+ although it could be more as this case could be a textbook situation.

Rob

Note: we also hold fritzl.org and josef-fritzl.com ...

The traffic is going to die right after the media stops talking about it. I personally would never develope a site about something like this... Value: $0.

Whilst you may have scored an SEO coup, in my mind this is in extremely bad taste and has a zero $ value

Point the names to whatever organization/bank/foundation is helping the family. Host it for them for free. Get some good Karma out of it. No one should make money on this tragedy. Value: priceless if it all goes to help pay the family's psych and other medical bills, childrens education, housing, food.

Social networking features on the back of a tragedy? Who would post on such a site?

Bad taste IMO unless you try to do some good out of it, educate people about this (warning signs etc.)or point it to charaties that are created to help his daughter and grandchildren / children.

Well basic on your statement bellow, I have done a bit of research about it, and seems a bit strange how you could get that amount of visitors per day, because only few websites has your link on their page.

Bellow are the websites linking to www.joseffritzl.org.

All these has a page rank from 0 to 5, so how you could get 2500 visitors per day I have no idea.

However I respect what you’re saying here, but in my opinion the number of visitors is very exaggerated, or they are not real visitors.
The name as a value, is less than reg fee. Sorry is just my opinion, don’t count on it.

Almost forgotten http://www.joseffritzl.org/ has a Google PR 0 ( ZERO)

Thanks for all the replies, gals and guys. All constructive commentary, criticism and suggestions are most welcome and appreciated.

Watch www.fritzl.org - we've developed many sites for that very Karma that you mentioned... and giving back to the "virtual" community.

Social networking features on the back of a tragedy? Who would post on such a site?

Err, how does a highly targetted niche news site (as www.joseffritzl.org is at the moment) differ from the big news sites that also offer their service for free yet offset those costs through advertising?

I.E. Facebook, CNN, BBC, name-your-aggregator... are, IMHO very similar, only they do it on the back of every tragedy.

Bad taste IMO unless you try to do some good out of it, educate people about this (warning signs etc.)or point it to charaties that are created to help his daughter and grandchildren / children.

Like I mentioned above to South, watch www.fritzl.org.

I understand your doubt, but we've had extensive experience in rapid deployment (and SEO work) ... 1) check the domain name ... perfect match for the subject 2) the interface, HTML, code is all optimized to make it as SEO friendly as possible 3) The content is relevant and current. 4) We researched the story, the players, the subject matter as a whole.

According to Google Analytics, joseffritzl.org is currently at 15K visitors, 30K pageviews and 70 RSS feed subscribers. 95% of the traffic is organic from search engines - although G. Analytics doesn't properly differentiate between organic and static referrals. The geographical reach is about 125 countries.

All this traffic will of course subside in the next few days and weeks. The story will remain for quite a long time...

Bad taste imo, cant stand it when people try to capitalize on others tragedies , if you make any cash on it you should send it to the victim for same good Karma.
