A smart business move by Versign today increases the integrity and value of Internationalized Domain Names.

"Recently, Verisign announced details about our IDN.IDN implementation plans. Through this approach, a registrant of an IDN.com or IDN.net or registrant in one of our new IDN TLDs will have the sole right, subject to applicable rights protection mechanisms , but not be required to register the same second level name across all or any of our IDN TLDS, including .com or .net TLD as applicable."

Welcome news. The naysayers were wrong about their idea that the "real" IDNs were yet to happen.

Verisign has announced that IDN.com and IDN.net holders (native language domains that have been available to register since 2000 and 2001 will be the only ones to be able to have the option to own/ activate the idn.idn version of names they currently have registered in the various major language transliterals of .com and .net. ;)

So what's the outlook on IDN currently ?
Back in 2005 there was talk about how they were to become big but I am not seeing a lot of action, especially in gTLDs.

Hello Katherine,

The outlook has never been better for IDN's now that aliasing is the normalized implementation standard beginning

with first wave of the new gTLD deployments.

The demand for IDN's should now start to increase as it would for any new 'normalized' / ASCII gTLD.

The percieved risks to IDN developers, IDN-Inclined business owners and IDN speculators is

basically gone, and the long standing 'Wait And See if they work' strategy has become a thing of the past.

In short, IDN's have become as viable as every other gTLD.

Here is a One Year Speculation.

1 - Expect IDN traffic to increase 5x to 10x once the root tld's are fully operational.

2 - Expect IDN sales in the $100K range listed in DNJournal.

3 - Expect the 1st $1M IDN sale listed in DNJournal.

4 - Expect John Berryhill to confirm the 1st $1M sale in DNJournal!

5 - Expect to see a new IDN-Specific page section in DNJournal.

6 - Expect to see a new site IDNSEO.com to start showing IDN Sales, IDN Traffic Stats and IDN Deployment

Strategies.

Just let me know if there is any other IDN information that I can answer for you.

Thank You for your interest!

P.S. Everything has been quiet since everyone anticipated more delays and more bad news!

This is the 1st time we actually got LUCKY!
