De Facto means what actually is / happens.
It is contrasted with De Jure, which is what should happen according to the law.

For instance, one might say:
There is de facto racial discrimination in this country, though there is not de jure discrimination.

or:
President Bush has the de facto power to attack Iraq, but there is a debate as to whether this power is de jure by the Constitution.

De Facto would make a great business name BTW.
My appraisal -- $20,000 (to an interested buyer).

Well, maybe $20,000 is too much for defacto.com.
I said that under the assumption that the $16,000 bid for the name on Afternic is legit, which as we all know may not be the case.

That being said, I think the name is really worth something.

defacto.com is not a type-in name -- its worth does not come from any traffic. Rather, it is a vanity name -- a domain that is good for a business image. Since it is a vanity name and not a traffic name, we must adjust our valuation model.

What about defacto.com?

According to NetCraft, there are 288 sites with defacto in the url. One would think that a handful of the companies represented here would be willing to pay some money for defacto.com.

Defacto consulting, Defacto software...

When I first joined Afternic, based on the appraisals, I thought I was a rich man.
-----------------------------------
That same thinking caused me to turn down 3k for a domain.

Nexus, good first post. Welcome to DNF!

Defacto.com - my opinion it's worth at least $500+. Then again, the value of a domain name is determined by its buyer (as proven at this AfterNic listing).
