I can't recall ever having seen a .biz domain name appear in search results. Even a search on .biz returns hardly any .biz domains. Perhaps there are so few of them in comparison to .com and all the various country .com

Do all the major search engines treat them just the same as any other domain name? Is there anything about them that a webmaster/seo should be aware of before going out a buying up a parcel of them?

Not entirely true, eg. Google or Google returns .biz url as well as .coms.

.biz==.com at least from SE perspective, i believe.

Thanks Mole!

Ok, let me try and put it another way. Not MANY search engine results list .biz and why dont companies try to promote .biz or is it just because they only know .com? Education could resolve the matter and ecourage people to use other endings?

What are your thoughts on it?

Dean, search engines dont give care what the extension is.

Google now controls the largest percentage of searchs...they power the search's for Yahoo, Aol, earthlink etc...

Now to rank in Google..the single most important thing is LINKS..you have to have hundreds of quality inbound links and even thosands of quality inbound links to rank well.

This takes time.. there are relatively few people who not only understand this but do it well..

Thats what Googles algo is BUILT upon..the theory of LINKING..

.Biz ,.Info and ccTLDs that are new take time to develop not the website so much but the networking ..getting people other good websites to link.. at no time has that been more important than it is today because of the growth of google.

That said the sheer numbers of websites already established in .com,.net, .org.. the odds are still overwhelming that you will find one of those first..

But trust me .Biz, .Info .US sites etc are being built and gaining ground.. I have used allthewebs advanced search features to "track" the growth of .US websites..

http://Archiver.US all the sites in the directory/se are .US ... there are actually millions more but I am trying to screen out a lot of the governemt and educational sites..

You can do this same advance search for .Biz sites...

and BTW.. I just sold Posters.Biz yesterday ..so yes..their is a market and they are being used ..

To your question about why Companies dont "promote" .BIZ .. many .Biz , .Info .etc.. are purchased for defensive purposes,..to prevent squatters AND also has a HEDGE for areas of possible future growth and expansion.

THey will not add and "expense" for educating as long as they can move forward with what they have.. BUT the instant they see .BIz , .Info web sites surge..become "freash" catchy etc.. you can bet they'll be their in a heart beat with the "me too " advertising ----Me Too .Biz ----- Me too .Info Me -----too .US.. :)

Do you invest in hype of the Markets or are you selling.. are you buying while it's quiet or are you selling cheap because you think it's all crashing?

i'm buying while its cheap but am abit worried about the investment. I'm starting the think that it could quite easily crash because people dont want to change from .com, .net, .co.uk, .org etc. etc.

What do you think will happen?

I personally think .US will be very hot by this summer for reasons I have stated all over the forum.

I think .Biz, .Info registrations continue to strong..

http://www.whois.sc/internet-statistics/

But I also think you have to get past 1 million registrations before the well starts running dry and Companies and individuals turn to the aftermarket .. I have a 1.1 million saturation theory laid here also..

Nothing is written in stone.. just my views..

just looked at whois source, am i read that right thinking that over 14,000 domains were deleted in the last 24 hours?
If so that is amzaing!

Personally i dont think any other extension will carry the same status as a .com for a long long time.

Dean.. --Diversify--- dont go after just one extension and dont fall into buying just anything..

Maybe the best advise is diversify .. try to get the best names you can without "reaching" when you find your self making up names..time to move on !!

14,000 dot coms deleted.. no thats not amazing..pretty typical day.. you see 16,000 were reg's so they netted 2000 for the day..

oh i agree, some names i have, i have ideas for, to be honest a few years ago i went domain crazy and i now have some i dont need. There are alot more that i want and when i am sorted with them i will sell on the ones i dont need.
I'm still abit domain crazy now but wouldn't sit here thinking up names or just buying any, i have ideas for them all or a customer in mine to sell them to!

so there must, somewhere be a free, or even a company that charges a monthly fee for example that will inform people when domains are being deleted/coming available?
