How does PHPBB compare to VBulletin? I am basically checking to see if VB is worth the purchase price...

Thanks for your insight. That's exactly the type of feedback I was hoping for.

phpbb and invisionboard.com have large communities themselves. They make their own hacks and mods, too. Free is better!

I use phpbb and I highly recommend it if you are just starting up a forum. If your forum gets 100+ members I might consider buying vBulletin if you are not satisfied with the features onf phpbb. Like someone else pointed out, it's a waste to buy a vbulletin license if you don't promote your forum...most forums never get off the ground...

vbulletin is the best - no dispute - its worth the money

phpbb is good for a free script but invision is much better - not as big as a community but it has many things as standard which you have to hack phpbb to get

as said, vbulletin is miles better in the admin section - so far ahead of the opposition its scary - but there are many more members options as well - plus the hack community for it is massive

ive used vb, invision and phpbb and you simply cant put the others in the same league as VB

the latest infopop however looks quite good and has many features no other forum has at the moment

For a starter ( w.r.t the age of the forum/community ) a free script or vB should do fine.

I am yet to see anyone using infopop in the starting stages, most of the communities using infopop are very active ones, atleast now... also all are remotly hosted ( i am not sure, if they give you the script with the source code ).

So start off with some free script like phpBB or anyother of ur choice ( tons of them out there ) or a vB and later switch over to infopop if need be.

Thanx
