http://www.mall.com/

Is it my mistake, or is this a waste of a great name. Even if you are waiting for a deep pocketed buyer, wouldn't you try to take advantage of this great name? That website surprised me with the lack of content. Someone with skills (not me) should help this guy out. Negotiate an arrangement beneficial to both parties.

mall.com is very suspicious, i was tracking it for a while when the previous owners went kaplooey due to fraud and nonsense. then all of a sudden it showed up as a new owner. i highly suspect that either it was stolen or the old owners pawned off the name instead of using the money to pay the people they defrauded.

Yes, I was watching the name as well and do recall reading that the (previous?) registrants of this domain were in a heep of trouble with a federal (united states) fraud investigation, where many advertisers were left hung out to dry. If I recall correctly, the advertisers and other creditors were owed millions, as a result of the mall.com execs picking up and leaving with all the loot that was deposited into advertising accounts. There were published articles on the events, that I believe were released to the associated press at the time. Perhaps a search (google?) on the net will uncover some of those archived articles.

With the name now being under a different registrant, it would certainly seem more likely that the domain was stolen by an opportunist, since it is unlikely that the previous registrants were in a position to sell the domain, or would stick around (or return to) the fire to even consider such an option.

i see he accepted an offer of $200 lol. i personally would pay that even if it was fraud. its worth putting it on a ppc search engine for about 2 month or so till they catch this guy and prove the fraud... by that time you would have gotten plenty of hits on the name and made quite alot of money! then if the owner proved he owned it you can just return the domain :)

Do these scammers really think that domainers are that stupid to not investigate these things?

alexa's detail usually doesn't change. when it takes details of a popular domain it takes it from the whois as far as i know unless the user manually adds it!

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=mall.com

So i am pretty certain thats the right details of the owner! Maybe get in touch and let them know!

Its part of nexgen solutions... but there is plenty of sites called that e.g. http://www.ngsol.com/ etc!

This is nice work i must say. it will be very difficult for the real owner to get it back! But we must also acknowledge we have no proof the name is hijacked and he may very well be the right owner and Not know the price / value of that name!

IMHO i think getting in touch with godaddy (the registrar) is the wisest thing to confirm the name hasn't been hijacked / transfered to this person recently!

i have spare money in my egold! i think i may just take the risk and take the name from him! worse thing that happens is i have to give the name back to the rightful owner! just to check does egold have anti fraud facilities like paypal? or do they just not care?
