Hi all,

I'm studying graphic design in Australia and i'm in the process of registering my domain name.

I hope to be doing some of work via the web which will mean I will have overseas clients.

Should I use an Australian company to host my website or is it best to host it overseas? If overseas is America the best location?

Any help greatly appreciated

 

I would say get a host as close to where you visitors will be coming from. If you believe most will be from USA the go with a USA Host.

Look for a Host with the best backbone Connectivity: Peering connections to major Internet carriers such as AT&T, UUnet, Bellsouth, Level3, and Global Crossing Backbones. And also look for BGP-4 (Border Gate Protocol) technology, which allows the traffic to your site to travel more efficiently by finding the best route for data to travel.

I would go with a US host. Everything is much cheaper than in Australia or parts of Europe.
