Regfee IMO if you're targeting animals as there are thousands of species and even more genus.

Too broad of a name for a community.

DogForum would be better, though there's many species, they all have 1 thing in common.

lol reg fee.

There are millions of animal lovers just because it's a generic keyword doesn't diminish its value completely. You could easily build a pet community around this domain name.

A forum is designed for people with common interests. Take DNF for example, we all are here for very few subjects.

Pet lovers, hundreds of thousands.

Imagine a forum for dogs, how many subforms do you need?

Cats?

Reptiles?

Marine mammals?

Etc.

It would be disaster to moderate.

0 is low, but the upkeep is high for such a generic term.

I think it is a great name. If you develop it I think it could be worth a nice bit of cash. The name Pet is more inclusive and people worldwide love pets and have no problem spending money on them. A developed site could even get sponsorship deals with major players.

Good luck.

I think it's a good name, too. I like that it's a broad term. The reason is; I can easily see people who have pets having more than one pet or having experience with more than one type of animal.

And you wouldn't have to put every known pet type under the sun as a sub-forum, either. Just list a handful of the more popular types and expand when needed (example: by user's request or for SEO reasons).

You could also have a sub-forum for pet adoption and fostering.

Another sub forum could be grooming tips, training, etc.

PET is also polyethylene terephthalate which is a health concern for many people.

So animals and health. I think you got it covered. ;)

I'm sure there could be wonderful banter about PET bottles.

I still stand my ground (especially being a *forum domain), that some domains can be too generic.

LabradorRetrieverForum.com - best as it ranks for the most popular dog

RetrieverForum.com as you can rank for all the best breeds:

Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Curly-Coated Retriever
Flat-Coated Retriever
British White Retriever
Golden Retriever
Labrador Retriever

Worst - PetForum.com. What's your target? Get 10 pet lovers from each group and since there's no horizontal interest in other animals, you create small caged in communities that will dwindle over time?

Just my 2 cents.

Totally agree.

I feel badly though and would offer you $500 for this "reg fee" domain name just so it doesn't take up any more room in your domain portfolio.

:)

I think it's a $2-5k name.

I attend several large, very active, forums on a daily basis and cannot see that changing within the next year?

I think it's a real good name with a good value...

Typically I would require at least $ 10 K for this domain for the end user.

For reseller, about $ xxx - low x.xxx but it's not easy to resell forum domains.

Personally I would make a big site of it, with a custom coded site/forum where there are sub domains for every country like: us.petforum.com, uk.petforum.com etc.

I wouldn't suggest just to start a forum with vBulletin, phpBB etc.

Forum and Facebook are two different channels therefore Facebook will never replace the forums because people use Facebook for your social networking with friends, family etc. and Facebook pages and groups have restricted/limited opportunities. You can use Facebook to promote your forum and get more visitor, but it's not easy to drive a forum. It require a good team.

The domain isn't worth 'reg fee', obviously. The challenge lies in how to develop it, while today's traffic for such content, info and news, has shifted to Facebook.

That's why I brought up Boo and his millions of fans. Imagine, 7 million forum members on PetForum!

The problem is, Facebook created stickiness that one cannot provide with a web site.

To be honest, I don't know why vBulletin bothers rolling out new versions of its software, they need to rethink the forum model.

I remember when PetTube.com got sold here a few years ago at about $1,200. I offered the guy who bought it double the next day but he wouldn't sell. He ended up turning it into a good site. Occasionally some real monsters sneak through. PetForum.com isn't in the same league as PetTube.com, but it is a very nice name as far as forums go, and unless rent is due tomorrow I couldn't let a name like this go for under X,XXX, just out of principle.

With PetForum, if you sell for a little under X,XXX, or somewhere in the very low X,XXX, you can't really have any regrets, even if the buyer turns it into a nice site, but with the PetTube.com name that slid through here, there had to be huge regrets, since it was such an obvious winner. Names that lend themselves to easy/obvious development in something that can create commerce have extra value. Some of that extra value becomes current value. That is different than someone with a worthless name that can only be worth something if developed. It is still shocking how people don't get that point. PetForum.com is a good forum name, and even though forum names are tough to sell here, I sense that someone might buy it and create a situation where both the seller and buyer get a good deal.
