Hello,

I recently purchased the domain name rams.com to develop. It is not for sale. Can someone please appraise this name?

Thanks

I wont put a price on it, because its a bit risky to do that when "rams" in trademarked

Hi ComScout, the reason I have a link to Rams.com.au is because those are the folks that sold me the domain. Therefore their trademark is not relevant; I have no plans on using the domain for anything close to their area of commerce.

Nice generic name, should have huge type ins during football season. Definately a nice pickup and I wouldn't be surprised if you get approached by st. louis with an purchase inquiry.

In the UK the word RAMS is probably most associated with Derby County football (soccer) team. So you may get some UK type-ins.

With so many interpretations of the name, an the amount of type-ins expected, I'd certainly say it was in the high $X,XXX range to the middle $X,XXX range

Since you are wanting to avoid the impression of exploiting any one established servicemark held by various 'Rams' companies, I would eliminate any mention of such companies or links to their websites. You might create a webpage regarding the animal (a ram) and post a statement on your site asserting all rights, in their entirety, to the "Rams.com" domain name. The statement would include a disclaimer that reads something like: Rams.com claims no affiliation with or connection whatsoever to any other website using the second-level domain: "Rams".

My opinion on the resale value of Rams.com would be mid-XX,XXX or higher.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback, guys. Several of you recommended I create a website about the animal known as a 'ram' so thats one of the components I will be adding to my site.

Ok, but why in the hell would rams.com.au a multi hundreds of million dollar company would want to sell you their name rams.com? I am amazed that they would want to do this, as this is a sure fire way of losing potential customers to other competition... I am scratching my head here> d:)

PS: I have edited my original thread!

Very easy to remember and many type-ins to "find" your site by accident (free advertising basically). I'm sure a domain like this could make $35 a day on a PPC, so that's $12,775 a year. On a domain like this, I would not sell it unless I got 3x annual income (a little higher than the avg, but this domain deserves the extra), so that's about $40,000.

It's amazing they would sell you the dot-com name what with their prior ownership, active trademark and the fact it will now likely suck-off lots of visitors who meant to go to their com.au site but go to the dot-com in error, plus all the type-in traffic they will not get.

Rams.com.au must have been desperate for a big cash infusion and you must have paid tons of money for the name otherwise they selling it makes no sense at all, and would be an incredibly poor business decision. How did you manage this miracle? Can you please explain how you got it? Just curious.

P.S. It's always possible the Rams football team was filing a WIPO against them soon (perhaps they somhow used it in a competing way involving sports or related to some product the Rams offer) so they wanted to dump the name prior to the wipo filing.
