Yeh. I don't get it either ... it's not the greatest list of domains, or anything. The majority of names here I would appraise in the very low $25-$50 range, in my opinion. Please get back to us on the above. Thanks.

Well... I really want to keep Shwing. It's a developing site and I have other plans for it. Generally people like the name, it's quirky and weird like Yahoo or Google. I'm also planning a line of shwing merchandise.

Videom, I should have sold but that was a few years ago before I got laid off from a dot com -- was still counting on stock options and had planned to develop a comprehensive multimedia site. LOL...

RateMyArt.com $25 (or develop and sell for more)
Diamondes.com $50
CommunityDate.com $75

Babilicious.com (almost good but misspelled, should be Babelicious)

Shwing.com Reminds me of Wayne's World. :) Potential spelling issue with 'schwing', but still good $100

Shoparama.com good name, $100+

idea247.com nice looking site! good luck on the sale

The rest are worth reg fee or less.

I'm totally okay with the choices i've made so far. The domain game is all relative anyway. Everyone thinks it's the generic names that work but look at Google, Yahoo, Kanoodle, inktomi et al. These are the names that count. The trick is to get a name that's catchy and then market the heck out of it.

The interesting thing is I have ideas for every domain I have registered.

And by the way, Babilicious is the correct spelling.

From CBS news "Take the word babilicious, which according to Sheidlower, refers to an extremely attractive woman. Used in the TV sketch of Wayne's World on Saturday Night Live, the word has been drafted for the OED since the movie popularized it. "

I had planned to make it a HotorNot site with Studilicious as the male version. I had a site up for a while but got the most submissions from porn stars -- Not a big deal but it was not an adult site.

OK, I was just going by Google and Overture results.

DomainGirl this is the most common mistake I see people make. Google, Yahoo etc. are big because they had the hundreds of thousands of dollars (plus great content) that it takes to brand a made-up name nationwide. Few people seem to understand what a difficult and extremely expensive task this is. I currently work for a company that is trying to do that very thing. We have already spent over a million dollars and we are still light years away from being a well-known name on the internet (even after getting additional free publicity in several national magazines, cable TV networks, etc because of a charity aspect to our project).

If you are going to develop all of your own names for your own little projects that is one thing, but expecting to sell a "brandable" name is something completely different. If a company has ambitions of branding a name nationally and the budget to do it, they will hire a focus group to create their own name. There is no need whatsoever for them to go buy a name from someone else.

For the domain name reseller, generic names are indeed the ones that offer the best chance for making sales. Made-up names are almost always losers. My two cents - and good luck to you!

Just another Yahoohaha.. He said he`ll make a site bigger and better than Comission Junction :D :D :D

PS: dont you people know that google and simillar sites would never suceed without the large machine and budget behind them, to promote them? Not to mention that they offer a service one of a kind..

Thanks....

I don't intend to sell Shwing which is a made up name. I plan to continue to develop it as I have been and see where it takes me.

My experience from working at dot coms is that some companies feel it's necessary to spend more money than it takes to get the job done. I've never quite understood that.

There are some websites with only a few employees and low overhead costs that are actually generating good income.

My goal is not to become Yahoo but to build a site to attract people who think like I do and constructive discourse from people who don't. My goal is to SHWING the global community into constructive communication! It may be a slow and uphill task but everyone is welcome...

BTW, Happy New Year Everyone!

All Im saying, anyone should be happy to sell shwing.com for 15.000. If youre rich enough that this kind of money means nothing to you, then there is no need for you to be in this business at first place. Cmon, 15K?? I dont get you..

Happy New Year to you too.

I like the look and feel of Shwing.com, it reminds me of a mix of Salon.com & Nerve.com - along with the clean vibes of the west coast :D Hey you're in LA after all.

Down here in Central FL all we have is theme park culture.

About the reselling potential of the names as such, the market is in a continuous recession with small sparks here and then. Unfortunately, the dot com era with creative names has passed; I had to drop quite a few along the way (which were snapped up by other dreamers).

My current mood: sell sell sell :D

OK, so I do buy a couple of domains /week still :D

Thanks 2003...

I'm not rich... if I was in a different situation when the offer was made, I would have sold.
Now I'm very attached to the name because it means nothing but the content stands for something. Plus there's now a made up vocabulary around it.
Most people expect an adult site and in the beginning I got lots of hits from such sites all over the world. I guess they were looking for Shwing.dk which used to be a porn site.

Anyhow, I shall log off this beast for now and go see what the City of Angels has to offer this evening.

I've been to Florida... It has potential...

Um, I never said that my spelling was dominant just that it's the spelling that was proposed for the Oxford dictionary...
