My biggest question on selling Domains is how do you price a Domain Name that means nothing at present but could be worth millions in the future? My biggest fear is selling a domain name for say $400 & finding out 5 years from now that domain name is worth millions due to technical innovation or the changing environment.
For $12.13 I just registered the domain name SyntheticCoffee.com. Yes its probably worth nothing today but if someone offered you $10,000 or so for it would you sell it at that price today when it could be worth a few million in the next 5-10 years? I should say I'm not desperate for $10,000. I welcome your input.

Hi

if you got an offer of $10K for a domain that you just registered for $12, you'd be the biggest fool for not taking the money.

you never know the future or if you will be around to see tomorrow.

and what kind of idiot would drink synthetic coffee?

imo...

May be this will help:

Trader: Live in the moment, set a BIN when sale happens take it and move on the next

Investor: Live in the future, set a Make Offer listing and continuously renew until you get a offer that meets your higher expectations (Make sure you have a high quality domain that exceeds market expectations)

It's probably my ego but let's say hypothetically when the internet first started, I had the domain Cars.com & someone offered me $10,000 at the time & I took it. Sorry I would feel like a chump for the rest of my life years later especially if that $10,000 wouldn't significantly make a difference in my lifestyle.

Hi

$10K back in the early 1990's could buy a few hundred other premium .com domains.
names like "crypto.com or nft.com or cannabis.com or even bitcoin.com, all of which could be just as or more valuable than cars.com is now.

hypothetically speaking...

imo...

It depends on the name of course. I registered a bunch of names in 1993 and 1994 and just sold one last year that I’d turned down a lot of offers on.

I would sell it for 10k in a heart beat, because I could take that 10k and make millions of of it in the next 5 years.

But nobody is going to offer you 10k on a domain name that is worth nothing now, but could be worth millions in 5 years. I have a domain name that is worth Millions now, why would I have to wait. I have aivideopoker.com

To me, when I was sane if I needed the money would flip the domain to eat. However, I sure would not get rid of a domain for an offer for what I consider a penny on the dollar. Why I am constantly broke and losing weight :) because am insanely hoping to get my perceived fair value. Am a domain hoarder, gambler, and have every OCD related to domains.
If I lived again, I would flip more to eat more and pay for a shrink.

Agree but the question is, if you don't need a few hundred or more, why sell if it will be worth more eventually?

Well, if you don't need fast cash let it sit advertised for the 7 digit number you fear it might trade for one day. Just patience and you won't have the " Oh, I could have made millions" anxiety.

Just because a domain name is worth a million dollars, doesn't mean it will sell for that. I would keep a $10,000 domain name for years to sell for a million if that was the case, but it's a pipe dream. Even if it did sell for a million later, but I could sell for 10k now, I could take that 10k and invest it, and have just as good of chance saving 10 million, before the domain would sell for a million. I have a name that is worth 10k right now, if you guys are serious about spending the 10k to get it let me know. I really have a domain name that is worth 10k. I would sell it in a heart beat for 10k. Yeah it is really worth it, websluts.com it was registered in 1996. I really own it. Who wants it for 10k? I would really sell it for that, but I wouldn't sell it any cheaper than that. Here is the sad truth though, I probably can't get 10k for it even though it is worth more than that... And even if it was worth a million I would be lucky to get 50k out of it. That is the sad truth with domaining. Like I said, it's sad but true. And just because a domain name sold for a million in the past doesn't even mean it's really even worth 10k. Just a word of thought for the day.

We do know the future of Earth incessantly warming. Domains related to climate change adaptation/mitigation will grow quickly on demand. Unless they get fried:).
My point is you are more assured of selling a domain at an enticing price in a hotter market ( no pun intended).
