I wish to purchase a domain from sombody. It is registered with Godaddy. (i don't know the domain, as it is for my colleuge and he asked me to buy the domain, but i know vague details about it)

I emailed them, and they are willing to sell it to me.

What about price?
It was registered in 2004, but the domain/site is Not running at the moment

How do i work out how much this is worth?
it has no traffic, as the site is NOT LOADED.

It expires in April 2008, but he is willing to sell it to me.

How would i approach him about a price? What should i pay for it? a domain that isn't getting traffic, and is not uploaded?

i don't want to sound desprate, or he will raise the price.

What offer should i make?

Any tips/ advice? from Experience ? ?

+What are the NEXT LEGAL STAGES, after price has been decided?

Figure out how much is the maximum you would pay, then go ahead and offer him 1/3 of that... and emphasize on the fact that you are a reseller ... then you will see what he says and take it from there

Tell him in a reseller? What will that do? is it a phycological trick?

Eg- tell him I am a reseller, and am going to sell it on?

whats the purpose of this?

Just curious..

How about $60 for the domain, how does that sound?

How much would you pay for that domain, with my above requirements? ?(site is not up, and gets no traffic) - how much would you pay approx? be hoest please...

:) I cannot say how much I would pay without knowing what the actual name is.

Regarding what I said about emphasizing on the fact that you are a reseller, you dont have to say that you will resell the name... just introduce yourself as a reseller. That may help avoid price inflation

If you realize it's my domain, you may ignore what Petros said.

lol is it?

I have a Rough Maximum I am willing to pay for it..... $150.

Do I email him and

1)offer him 50% of this(and work up if he says too low)
Or
2)Should i ask him "How much do you want for the domain?"

Which one is a better approach, asking how much he wants? or telling him how much I wish to pay ? Why is it a better approach ?

which one works best for you ?

You don't need a site to have traffic. For all you know the domain gets thousands of visitors a day.

If the owner is in domain business then telling that you are a seller might help but if the owner is someone else , they may thing that "wow my domain worths money , I should keep it"
So you have to decide your strategy.

It would have to be a really bad domain name to get it for $150. Most sellers that I contact are insane and want $20,000 for a mediocre domain name, though this may be a reasonable guy. I would expect to pay at least $500..but we really need to know the domain name to give an accurate opinion.

<snip>

This is doing my head in.

I want to send an email to a domain owner too.

I don't know the domain name either
I know some vague details though
I want to ask the owner if the domain is for sale
What exactly would I say to a domain owner to find out if they want to sell a domain that I don't know the name of?
Can you help me?

Every deal is different but I think you are giving this $150 deal way too much thought. You are not going to be able to get anything for $150.

See if it is listed on sedo or afternic and maybe he has it priced there.

Buy quality, not quantity.

I doubt you'll get a reply if you start your offer at that level.
Good Luck with your acquisitions in any event.

I got a reply when they offered $9700, and I offered $35 (the domain was worth around $50)... I'm not sure why people are advising that $150 is too low. Unless this is a high quality domain, $50 is probably being modest.

The best way to go about things is to offer 50% of what you feel the domain is worth, but tell him you might be a bit flexible with the pricing (hopefully then he'll come back a bit higher, but nothing too high)

Would you sell a domain for 50$ or a low xxx amount if were contacted by an end-user? I don't think so.
