Gday,
I realise most of you guys are American, I come from Australia aged 33, but when I was a kid I grew up with Father Christmas ... not bloody Santa Claus, it really pisses me off when I hear on all the aussie news stations that Santa has left the North Pole ... it should be Father Christmas has left the North Pole!

I know it sounds stupid, but it was just on my mind!

Its not only stuff like that, but us Aussies seem to be losing our Aussie Language and talking like Yanks!

 No offence to all the "yanks" reading this!

My take is that it's more internationalization (or globalization in a more general sense) than Americanization. After all, Santa Claus is NOT an American term (European I guess). When the world gets closer, with better communication like the Internet, it's natural to use a common language, right?

not to mention santa originally wore a green suit not red, untill the cocacola company brought santa out. In 1931 CocaCola wanted someone friendlier drinking their product so they hired Haddon Sundblom to come up with a new image. For 35 years, Haddon Sundblom painted pictures of Santa. They were used in magazine ads and posters. They appear in special exhibits around the world right now. Haddon Sundblom painted his last portrait in 1976. He died in 1976 but he left behind a well-known, mischievous Santa who raids the fridge, eats cookies and enjoys a Coke once in a while.

You have every right to be worried. The first sign is starting to adopt the yank "talking". Then before ya know it they make you a State. I'm sure it won't happen for a while though. I think England is next in line after conversion to a colony first. Would it then be .co.uk.us ?

americanization? is that a word? lol
hey, I got americanized. will you americanize me tonight?
nahhh, I dont quiet think its a word.

but if there were such a word, here are what I believe the signs for this condition would be:

you eat a lot of hamburgers.
you are very fat
you watch 'friends' all the time.
you read the bible every night, but still ont get it (who does)?
you have a US flag hanging on your porch, but just cant quiet remember why.
you watch 'friends' a lot.
You dont say merry christmas, but happy holidays because it is politically correct.
you dont like Canadians.
Well, you dont like much of the world either.
In fact, you dont really know there is a world out there.
You watch 'friends' a lot (reruns)
The best restaurant you've been to is McDonalds (are there any other restaurants in the world, world meaning from sea to shining sea)
You can understand President Bush's accent.
In fact, you can hear and understand what he is saying, it just doesnt make sense to you, but he's the man.
You watch 'Friends' a lot.
I can go on and on, but it wouldnt make a difference.

for those who take life too seriously, I am apparently joking :)

Merry Xmas, happy holidays, happy winter..etc... everyone!!!

That actually is the issue with most English-speaking "worlds" from Australia, New Zealand to Canada. First, they were too "British", now they are too "American"!

You got it backwards, they are invading US!

Last month in Las Vegas, there are 2 big shows: "Thunder from Down Under" (men in thongs) and "Angels from Down Under" (women in thongs)

Yesterday I saw a woman on the beach playing the instrument that looks like a huge pot pipe, and makes a noise like your transmission is gonna die. We know they because we saw it on "Survivor: The Outback".

This morning this is on the cover of our local paper:

"...Korie Norton, marketing director for Westfield Shoppingtown Mission Valley, said family lounges are a new trend, imported from Australia, where they have been immensely popular."

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20041225-9999-7m25lounge.html

Not to mention the "Outback Steak House" chain popping up everywhere!

Being part of probably the most "Multi-Cultural" and "Racially Tolerant" countries on earth we usually enjoy the benefits of this cross cultural diversity.

However some are not all good eg McDonalds, Rabbits, Goats, Camels, George Bush, most of which are either ferral or a danger to your health.

Cant wait untill we can start exporting a few Dugites, King Brownes, and Red Backs.

I mean we let you have Rupert and family. "Swings and Roundabouts"

Merry Christmas To all
and Father Christmas fell over the esky and broke all the long necks and the ice ran out...........

Personally I hate and loathe the term "Happy Holidays" - it's "Merry/Happy Christmas" -Why is everyone so afraid to say Christmas? The people you're all so afraid of offending don't give a toss about offending you! For all our sakes stand up for your culture.

Hmmm.. my post that was not racist or obscene was deleted. It was only 'objectionable' to Catholics, so I'm guessing that was the problem. I didn't post anything that was not factual and covered in detail by news organizations around the globe.

Please revise the rules to "no posts which contain facts embarrassing to the Catholic Church", if that's what's being enforced here. We just need to be clear on the rules up front.

Thanks.

This is not a place for religious discussions and arguments, this forum is multi-cultural and consequently religious arguments can cause offence, hence the rule and the deletion of posts - if you want to engage in religious discussions find or form a suitable discussion board for the purpose.
