Government is just a protection racket. They provide an army to protect you from invaders and terrorists, and you pay them whatever they ask. If you refuse to pay, your one of the terrorists. If there are no invaders to be afraid of, your government will invent some.

Its been that way since the toughest guy in the first tribe discovered people would pay him just NOT to beat them up.

What really doesn't work is European Socialism, it's a proven failure, Greece and all it's entitlements is a FAILURE, and instead of learning from the mistakes of Greece and other European countries, Obozo follows the same blueprint, increasing the size of Government and the National debt like no other President in History ever has, Growing the size and scope of Government at any cost, clearly this is what we've seen in the last 4 years.

Reason? As Reagan once said;

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! ~
Ronald Reagan

Government is getting richer and the public sector poorer, John Stossel did a segment where he pointed out that Washington D.C. was the only city in the country that didn't suffer from the real estate collapse, not surprising when you think about it really, but it was quite shocking to see how many politicians today are living in Mansions, more like Palaces.. And the elaborate Government buildings we have that make the Google and Microsoft headquarters look second rate...

Aside from all the entitlements Government employees receive, if you were to add up all the entitlements for low income Americans, welfare, section 8 housing, the earned income credit and all the other Government programs, it amounts to over $52,000 a year, it's no wonder why we have a record number of Americans sitting on their ass and voting Democrat, Gotta love that Socialism.

What I find funny is that the US, while having a non-socialist system, has the level of debt that goes with socialism but not the perks of socialism. Go figure :)

not one complaint about the ridiculous amount spent on defense? The entitlements are a drop in the bucket in comparison.

I agree with that. Keep in mind none of these countries are pure capitalistic or socialistic - they are split. Some just lean more one way or the other.

Drop in the bucket aye?

Were actually half way there.... For those who have chosen to lead non productive lives and live off the state, I can see how socialism would be appealing.
You can only leach off your parents (oops I mean country) for so long before they run out of money and go bankrupt.

Entitlements - bad
perks - good.

Damn, those congressional leaders have a hell of a lot of perks, eh? Or are they entitlements?

America has all the perks of socialism!
The difference is, in American socialism, the perks go to Wall Street and the defense department. Everybody else gets food stamps.

Remember what Saint Ronald Reagan said... We must keep gazillionaires and defense contractors rich so the wealth will trickle down from the makers to the takers.

You got that right, and the first State to go bankrupt will be California, which is the biggest welfare state in the Country.... Last I checked the State has well over $500 Billion in unfunded pension liabilities, and yet they keep finding ways to Tax, and Tax and Tax, doing everything they can to prolong the inevitable pension tsunami, but it's coming, and when it does, the images on TV will be a lot like what we saw in Greece over austerity measures.

Oh, any look for another credit downgrade when Obozo pushes for another debt ceiling increase, that should be coming up in May or June... Hard to believe Americans were stupid enough to re-elect an incompetent boob who runs up Trillion + dollar deficits every year, and without a balanced budget since taking office.

I guess any Greek guys who were at the 2004 Athens Olympics had better cherish those memories, it took Greece 108 years to host the games again in 2004 (they were the original Olympiad in 1896) .....and it'll be another 108 years before they can host their third

And 8 years after they find a way blame (in part) the debt crisis on the 2004 Olympics.
http://www.voanews.com/content/olympics-blamed-for-stoking-debt-crisis-in-greece/1146124.html

If it's not the Olympics fault, it's France's fault, and Germany's Fault, and North America's fault.

Fact is, Greece itself is mostly to blame, It was Greece that cooked the books, It was Greece that failed to make a concerted effort to reform its economy, Its Greece who has one of the lowest Retirement ages in all of Europe, It's Greece who offers pensions they CANT pay for.. And all the Ponzi debt, add that in there too.

Socialists and Liberals, always refusing to accept responsibility.

I think many people do not realize that the euro debt is a debt crisis.
The eurozone is in shambles because several EU member countries have been running budget deficits and have unsustainable levels of debt.

Greece is the worst offender and has a sovereign debt that amounts to around 150% of annual GDP.
It's a time bomb that HAD to explode, the question is not if but when.

Now governments try to portray themselves as victims and point the finger at scapegoats like the banks, but who is responsible for dragging the nation deep into debt ?

The Eurozone was created with Germany's unification in mind. They dictate the game and run Europe not unlike a feudal system.

The Greek debt etc. is a story that has been told ad nauseam: Goldman Sachs helped cook the books for Greece to enter the Eurozone, BUT then they went around and bid against Greece's ability to repay it on time. The debt itself was a insignificant compared to what it ballooned into due to interest rates piling up. That's the game of the banksters, the IMF and Eurozone officials. Iceland took an exceptional step, telling all of the above to f*ck off. Cyprus should have done the same, but instead it played the game of Germany.

A lot of people don't know of the political games related to the strategic location of Greece and Cyprus and think it's just finances. Both countries hold the fort down against an endless flow of migrants from the east. In fact, Greece is obligated by law to not allow illegal migrants that enter its soil move onto other countries of the Eurozone. Greece, with a native population of 11 million, has 1.5 million to 2 million migrants, most of them undocumented. That's more than 10% of the native population.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.Thomas Jefferson, (Attributed)
3rd president of US (1743 - 1826)
