Ft. Worth is the second-largest cultural and economic center of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area (colloquially referred to as DFW Metroplex), which is the largest metropolitan area in Texas as well as the entire South, and the fifth-largest in the United States with a population of an estimated 6,242,800 in 12 counties.
