Have you considered a .info name? That would seem a natural for an informational site. And since the point of the site is to cover domain news, expressly inclusive of various TLDs, restricting your vision to .com names seems contrary to its spirit.

Thanks for the note Dan. I have nothing against .infos (have a few myself). But the majority of domainers are still .com only people and I wouldn't want them to overlook us (even if it is due to their snobbery :) )

We can always start with the .com then redirect to a .info a few years from now :D

I will listen to .info names too, but with nearly a million registered now, the pickings are getting pretty slim there too.

I think an .info would be a good idea too. It'll help promote the tld. :D

For those who want a .info in the mix what about:

DailyDomain.info or DomainDaily.info

See, you can't please everyone :D

I'll probably pick 5-6 I think have the best potential for the plan I have in mind and put up a poll tonight. We'll see how things shake out with the field narrowed to a manageable number.

DomainNewz.com
URLJournal.com

The problem I have with the 1st one is the mis-spelling on Newz which would require you to explain how to spell it every time you tell people the name. I also never liked having two words together where the first word ends with the same letter the next word begins with.

On the second, DNJournal.com has already been suggested and if I were to use initials I like that better than URLJournal.

These are personal preferences of course and as we have seen throughout this thread, everyone has very strong personal preferences! Thanks for the input Greggish!

Thanks options. The site will cover 2nd level a lot too (nice catches with the root words etc) so TLD would be too limiting. I really would like to stay away from too much of the jargon (like URL) and make it livelier reading and more entertaining than the exhaustive industrial-style of reporting that is out there now (that has it's place of course but I want to bring something different to the marketplace). I would like to spotlight personalities more too. It will be applying some mainstream magazine style to the domain business so I need an upbeat mainstream kind of name.

If part of the idea of the site is to encourage interest in other TLDs than .com, then it kind of defeats its own purpose to use a .com name... it opens you up to charges of hypocrisy: "You've got all of these articles telling me how great .info is, but you don't use it yourself!"

A .com name with "dotinfo" in it, like the above suggestion "netdotinfo.com", is particularly silly... like it's trying to act like a .info while still being a .com.

"NicReader.com"
"NicInformer.com"
"NicDaily.com"

What about those?

I agree with that last paragraph Dan. A .com will have to make sense, just like any other extension. However you are missing one VERY major point. I have said yes .info .us etc have a future but I have also repeatedly said that future was probably about 5 years from now. TODAY I would rather use a .com if I can find one that is acceptable.

The idea of the site is NOT to encourage interest in other TLD's than .com (though certainly that is likely to be a by-product of the site). I never said that. The idea is to do a magazine style site that gives everyone a look at the domain name business and personalities in it that they have never seen before. I will cover all of the main TLD's for sure but I am not looking to tout any one of them over another, including .com. This site WILL have to have an extension though so there will always be someone who wishes it was something different that whatever it might be.

I would like to have a specialist write a regular column on each extension, for example Domebase on .info, Mole on .biz, Bidawinner on .us , someone else on .org .net .com etc (I haven't asked any of these guys, I'm just citing possible examples).

I would like to profile a guy like GregR. Run a digital photo of him, let him tell people how he got started, amassed his portfolio and continued to succeed in a down market. I would also profile some of the controversial guys (if they will let me). I'm sure people would like to see what makes them tick.

I don't care one little bit about trying to do another site with long boring news feeds and mountains of statistics. I will provide links to those kinds of resources so people who want them can find them. I am interested in emphasizing the people and aspects of this business that make it so fascinating for so many of us. That would be fun for me and since this is not likely to be a big money making project it has to be fun or I am going to quickly lose interest in it.

To see how many think I should use .info or somethng else now, when I set up a poll , probably tonite, I will include a .info and a .biz, as well as .com .net and .org. I will leave .us out because this will be a site aimed at a global audience (.us has its place and I am a big booster, but this project is not the place for it).

I fully intend to put up live sites on .us .info and .biz in the next year or so, so I will do my part to help those extensions go.

Why does it have to be silly.it was a suggestion based on criteria
of publishing a news site concerning "dot news or dot info",therefore I just listed the suggestion.
For you to call somebody's suggestion silly, is bad taste.
