is it just me or is this a horrendous idea? I mean, more tlds are definately needed, but using common file extensions is just crazy: it will confuse users something chronic.

I think .blog would be a good TLD, also .shop. Although I can see the potential for .pdf/mp3 etc, I just think it muddies the waters too much.

wait until they start approving gcTLD's (global city).

this effort has really picked up momentum.

there are a few individuals behind this that would run the registry. One city, Berlin, has threatened to sue if the .ber is approved.

big push for .nyc also. The people backing this and pushing it are basically preying upon new immigrants to this country. they are going to town meetings and telling them how unfair it is that they come to this country but can't have the domain name they want to do business on line. I kid you not. that is their sales pitch. then they have all those in attendance sign a petition backing the .nyc gcTLD effort.

this is something people really need to keep their eyes on. The internet is about to become very very crowded.

A good TLD should be future-proof to some extent... I know 10 years is a long period in Internet time I do not see .blog as a long-lasting extension. It's more a fad.
But wait - couldn't the same be said about mobi ? :)

In the US alone hundreds of cities are named 'Star'...
Can you imagine the nightmare :)
On the other hand I think it would be a much better practice to use subdomains eg. berlin.de or cheyenne.wy.us etc
Not as sexy but to the point. Besides we already have .travel, are we going to add tons of TLDs ad nauseam :uhoh:

It's a big can of worms
