I am looking for opinions on virtualworld.com

It seems that Virtual World is a generic term often used to describe MMOs and systems like Second Life.

Anyone care to make an estimation of value?

1st of all, welcome to DNF.

Do you own this domain? It points to a battletech site.

I do indeed own it as well as the company Virtual World Entertainment LLC.

I am asking because I had recieved an unsolicited offer to purchase the domain this past weekend.

The offer started off at 500 euros, then jumped to $5000 US, and ended up $25,000 final offer.

At no point in time did I counter offer, I just indicated I thought we could work a deal, and I started working on a purchase agreement.

As I also own Virtual World trademarks, I felt that a purchase agreement was in order.

As I worked on the agreement, I wanted to know if the buyer had the potential to compete with my on-going business that would continue to use the name.

The buyer would not disclose his intent other than 'a project in development'.

I had not considered selling it before, but I now see that it may have some significant value in the domain name market, not only am I considering selling it, but I may hold onto it for a while for a much more substantial offer.

I figured this would be the place to get some feedback on that thinking.

I am not a domainer by trade, I just happen to own a 14 year old domain that might be worth something.

A LOT.

Especially if you are including all rights to the names, TMs on "Virtual World", and the business name, etc. The words alone are awesome. Could be a great name to compete against myspace for MS, Google, etc. This could be a lot bigger than a gaming site :)

6 figures? More?

It's a PR4 domain with traffic. Why sell it if you are running a business with it? Don't you think it will make your company worth more if you ever decide to sell your business altogether? Having such related, good keyword domain will only help your business to grow in a much faster pace.

I say either you wait for a really good offer which you cannot resist selling, otherwise, hold on to it.

I dont believe my business depends on that web site.

I have quite a few others domains that would work well too.

I'm not sure that the company will move a direction that www.virtualworld.com would really help a whole lot.

Thats not to say I couldnt partner with another entity, or develop a new product that would benefit from it.

The sale of this domain could help infuse a significant amount of cash for R&D and other projects.

Either way, I'm inclined to NOT accept the current offer, and may put it 'on the market' with a high starting price in the mid to high six figures to see what happens.

I'm in no hurry to do anything whatsoever, but I should probably start the process and get word out there.

Thanks for the insight, you made my day!

Keep the opinions coming!

IMO the name alone is in the low to mid xx,xxx range (high end reseller - lowend enduser)...so the offer you received is not an awful one...and most likely a reseller...imo of course.

The right enduser may take some time to find but I could see xxx,xxx with the right situation.

I don't believe in appraisals, but I believe you have a great name. I believe I would try to develop it before I tried to sell it as the steady traffic and search engine rankings over time can only enhance its value.

I believe it to be a $1 million dollar name. Could break out if right enduser wants it.

If you sell to a fellow domainer/reseller, you could get $175,000.

I guess I better research the best way to get word out to the right people that I'm willing to sell.

Thanks a bunch!

Yeah, this is a great domain, no doubt about it. I would hold out for 500k or more, especially from an end user.

Good luck.
