WIPO Director General Kamil Idris, a native of Sudan, purposely misrepresented his age on official documents for years [to obtain certain benefits]
...the United States is raising concern that Idris knowingly falsified US visa documents
...raises questions about whether Idris gave false information about his work history and college degrees before
Apparently he started forging his birth day when he first applied at WIPO, pretending to be 37, when he really was 28 (UN bureaucracies place great importance on employees' nationality and age. Besides the quotas for nationalities, there is also a strong link between age and hierarchy: as the UN doesn't usually measure employees' productivity or output, age serves as a poor but convenient surrogate).
It's not uncommon that an individual does something he shouldn't do. The individual here isn't the problem.
The problem here is the systemic failure, the organizational neglect in addressing these issues swiftly and transparently.
How credible is the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center in dispensing justice as long as it's administered by a crooked bureaucracy?
:sigh2:
