End of Suburbia can be a depressing watch if it comes to fruition. But the basic premise is true and hard to refute - suburban living modeled on the US version of the American Dream cannot last as it is without some serious hurdles to be overcome.
We had a good talk about the rise of the Canadian dollar and the gradual collapse of the US $ in economics and history class today. The parallels to earlier times are rather startling, but America has rode this out before and will again if they can restrain their runaway spending habits and realize there is no profit in war, only economic defeat for the party spending to make war.
To quote Pat Buchanen - time to end the empire and resort to what America does best - commerce from within its own borders. That's what made America great.
As an aside - the Canadian dollar could and probably should be known as the new petrodollar as that is a large reason for Canada's economic success. And there are inklings and rumours abound that the OPEC nations may switch from the greenback to the Euro for their product. That would be devastating to the US and may just induce China and Japan to dump their US dollar holdings, and demand debt repayment, which would only further drop the value of the greenback.
Interesting times...
