Anybody care to shed some light on the following:

DeletedDomains shows xxxxxxx.com as ON HOLD since 11-10-03. However, whois shows Expiration Date: 04-nov-2004

Thanks in advance for your explanation.

What happens is the registrar renews the domain when the customer doesnt.

If the customer doesnt pay, then it gets "un-renewed" and the registrar gets a refund.

Thus the date will go back to 2003.

I believe this is correct.

Hope this helps,

Registrars can do pretty much whatever they want with an unclaimed domain. If the person doesn't pay, and they have already registered the domain, basically they "own" it.

You'll notice that they don't "hold" names like xyz-12334.net. It's almost always a more valuable domain.

Many registars now have a "used domain" sales page. Some of those on-hold domains may be found there.

I cheked some of the domains @ Godaddy used name store and none are not active..

I believe this is specificly prohibited by ICANN.
