Apache & PHP Installation. 500 error

Hello,

I've gone through the step-by-step guide on how to install PHP on my personal computer. The one I used can be found here:

Everything seems to go according to plan until I hit the step that asks me to test everything by running phpinfo.php (which is stored in the htdocs folder and contains <? phpinfo() ?> as its only content.

When I go to run this file I get a 500 Internal Server error. I've double checked everything in the tutorial and can't put my finger on where I must've gone wrong.

Can anyone here help? If you need more information let me know, I'll be happy to provide it. I'm really stuck.

If Apache doesnt work you could just use IIS. I have it on my PC and it runs ASP and PHP.

A quick and easy solution would be to install "PHP Home Edition" (all in one package) that is free and found here :

These messages are said that , your web server program need to tunnel.
If you use Linux, maybe you must config the file /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf.
etc....

PS: What is the popup messages, when I click the link you provide!

The server is running on Windows XP on my laptop. I'm setting it up to run on here so I can test PHP without having to connect to the internet and load them onto a server (so I can work in the car, on the plane, etc).

As for the pop-up message, I'm guessing thats just an advertisement from wired.com where the tutorial is hosted.

Thanks for the all-in-one link, I'm gonna give it a little more time and then I'll uninstall what I've done and give it a try.

It installs PHP, Apache, MySQL.

It works great.

Thanks for the link. I'm gonna give PHP Home a try and see if I like it. It definately installed nice and easy
