I herd somewhere that verisign was changeing the DNS to where it updates almost instantly, sorta like the .info system.

Is this true?

yes, or at least as far as the parts of dns verisign controls

yes, i just renewed a domain (which has been expired for almost a month), once payment submitted, the domain is ready to use again. instantly.
