Debt Collection threat from registrar

I got a letter today from a domain registrar, giving me 7 days to pay an invoice.

It relates to 3 domains I had with them, I set the names to manual renew and because I did not want to use that company again I just let my credit card details expire.

They have since renewed the names and are demanding I pay them for it, with a line saying it will be sent to a debt collection agency if I do not pay.

I don't have the money to pay them, is there anything I can do?

You set them to automatically renew you mean instead of manual? If so, then you are liable to pay your obligation .. even if your cc info on file was not valid. So pay $2k for a lawyer or pay them there $30 bucks.

100% correct, its 1&1 alright.

I set them to manual renew as I no longer wanted them, that was months before they were due to expire.

I will just pay the amount, my mother isn't in the best of shape and having debt collectors coming to the door isn't a good idea when I am at work.

I was thinking the same thing - they pulled the same $h!t with me last year - I canceled 20 domains and even got the confirmation email and clicked on it (the confirmation link).

Sure enough, they renewed my domains and refused to do anything when I complained.

Within a week I had no domains with them- I spent close to $1,000 in transfer fees and over $200 for a new hosting plan but it was well worth it.
